What if Leonard/Duran 3 had taken place 5 years earlier...?

In 1984. Suppose Leonard had decided to carry on after the Kevin Howard fight ? He decides that he wants one major fight prior to taking on Marvin Hagler, and a third fight with Duran fits the bill. One thing's for sure. It would have been better to watch than the real third bout of 1989. Who would have taken it ?

Are we saying after Durans Loss to Hagler and Hearns or just after his win against Moore?

I think Duran would have done alright had he fought SRL instead of Hagler. To be honest though, I can't really see him winning a third bout between the two of them.

My scenario is Duran coming off the Hagler bout, and fighting Leonard instead of Hearns in the summer of '84.

Leonard would've won a sound points decision but Duran would've definately been...

    a)Out of shape
    b)Unmotivated
    c)Past his prime
d)Fighting too far above his ideal weight
    e)All of the above

...hence that ***** Leonard deserves nothing but scorn for again picking on a reduced Manos De Piedra.

If Duran couldn't be arsed training hard then that's his own fault. Plus he basically outgrew the lightweight limit and moved through weight classes like several other great champions.

Duran knocked the **** out of Barclay in 1989 so he was hardly an easy touch. Put your Panamanian kleenex to one side and stop talking ****!

I was being clearly being sarcastic.

Leonard could've beaten Duran at any time and there'd always be a ready excuse for Duran and a convenient indictment again for Leonard.

I wish the rubber match was immediate, but after Duran quit he made it unsellable so Leonard took the ***** move of going after Hearns, a man who'd spark Duran in 2

    All good champ :good

I have to remember sarcasm doesn't translate that well in writing and there are Duran nuthuggers who make a living making up excuses for any and all of his losses.

 :lol:No ****in chance if put on a level playing field which is something Leonard would never ever have allowed & Duran that fought Hagler would have smashed the **** out of Leonard at 154 or 160 in 83/84 but thats with all things being equal which would never ever have happened. Leonard would never risk being beaten by Duran again & the Howard fight is an example that leonard could'nt cut it above 147 unless he made the rules as he did from 87 onwards.

But Duran would always agree to what Leonard wanted as he was after the glory of payment, we now know that Duran would always agree to any of Leonards demands so long as he was enriched by it. There was nothing stopping Leonard fighting Duran after the Duran/Hagler fight & the only block to that fight was Leonard as he knew he did'dt have it at that Level anymore & his actions confirmed that...well Kevin Howard confirmed it & so did Leonard in his post fight interview.

Duran would have beat the **** to death & the only way Leonard stood any chance was if he was allowed to dictate all the catchweight nonsence that he employed when he ran his ego tripping senior's tour such as LaLonde, Hearns 2 & Duran 3, least we forget that he avoided Hagler for 5 years....Leonards a ****in myth just for fansboys after 81.........He could have come back at anytime from 83 onwards....why did'nt he? He knew he'd get wiped out & the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ trail would end........He proberbly **** his pants when he saw Hagler wipe Hearns out.

Leonard was just a ruthless cynical cherry picker & that where Mayweather gets hit from as Leonard started all this avoidence fake retirement bull**** just to prolong he now discredited career & Norris & camacho saw to that:lol:

    It's Roberto's birthday today so **** OFF:D

What a fluke Leonard is, 2 fluke wins over Duran and beating 3 men who dominated Duran, clearly Duran was the better man, happy bday Roberto

Absolute crap post:lol: the SuperFight of 83 Hagler/Duran & that was a blockbuster & Leonard even said if Duran won he's deff coming back so the fight would have been MEGA but Leonard never ever gave anyone a re-match to any opponant he thought was 50/50 chance of beating him unless they were on the slide as Tommy was in 89, he could have fought Tommy/Hagler or Duran in 84/85 or 86........anytime but he did'nt did he...WHY!!!!:bbb Kevin Howard gave the answers thats why:D
