Nice contribution of a moving, insightful tribute there Stonehands. Not that I would have expected any less from a chap of your calibre on here. I never knew much of Lowry outside of his fights with Marciano, Moore and Murray, so thanks for that. It seldom needs quantifying that boxing would be unable to function without men of Ted Lowry's ilk contributing all that they have to it, nor that any man who, at his best, was good enough to draw the best out of Marciano and Moore deserves respect. Another one of the old school gone I suppose......R.I.P old boy.

I met Ted several times. He looked in amazing shape, even at his age. I once asked him who was the best fighter he ever fought, and he told me Joey Maxim. He stated that Rocky Marciano was strong but he thought he beat him in their 1st bout. He said that he did lose the 2nd one but he was a late substitute. The last time I saw him was at the Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame affair a few years ago. Ted, rest in peace, now your with all the other Great ones that went before you.
It is sad to see Lowry pass away both as a person and as a conection to boxing history. In many ways of couse, he is one of the hapier post boxing stories among the fighters of that era.
Lowry can be found in interview on you tube. As he agred his wisdom and spirt seemed to tower. I recommend catching this interview, as he talks about his career in vivid detail.
Good words man - saw this posted lastnight and felt totally gutted - you want people like that to live forever (but I suppose they do anyway) - didn't really know what to right but just wanted to pay a little tribute from another fan - will try to find some articles on old Tiger and get them up on here for him - there was a interview somewhere on the web too - would be good if someone could get there hand s on it and post it on here too - but man it doesn't get any better hearing things like this - see ya Ted and give Rocky a jab from me whereever you are
