Did Pacman Duck Shane Mosley?

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Boxing Fanatic, Jun 16, 2010.

  1. He ducked Yuri Foreman, too. It doesn't matter whether or not he'd beat either guy - he didn't want to take the chance.

It's the same way Pacquiao gets credit for taking the Oscar fight and Mayweather gets credit for taking the Mosley fight - sure, both opponents came into the ring badly faded but they didn't know that would happen beforehand. Both were considered potentially dangerous fights, Oscar especially (as he was favored more than 2:1).

I dont think he ducked him but rather avoided him. I think if SSM had beat May then Pac would be fighting him now

cotto was still a big chance considering how good he is but after seeing what mosley did to Margarito, they could have decided that cotto would have been a better calculated risk

    I see.

  6. That's exactly what happened. I'm not calling Cotto a soft touch by any means, but he was probably perceived as a better stylistic matchup for Pacquiao (read: left hand dominant), as well as being arguably more popular than Shane, and a Top Rank fighter to boot.

:nod couldnt agree more with you. cotto likely was just a moreof an attractive fight for them stylistically and financially. if cotto wasnt in the picture, he could have very well fought mosley, but since there a choice, they went with cotto.

Yes. Its a bad styles match up for Roach and he knew it. Its a bigger better banger than Pac.

Pac made the better business decision by fighting Cotto, so I can't knock him for that. What does justify it as a duck is Roach getting caught on camera saying Mosley is too good.

It was Arum who stopped the fight from happening. Both fighters agreed and it was a go, until Arum decided to have an in-house fight between Pacquiao and Cotto.

That said, Cotto is a better fighter than Mosley at 147lbs, especially at that period in their careers. Cotto was a tougher fight and a better fight.

"Ducking" is the wrong word completely. The only offer was accepted by both men, they just didn't fight.

Yeah he ducked him. Shane was even willing to down come to 140 to fight Pac and Pac declined. It couldn't be more obvious.
