Lopez is probably going to be too big for Rafa not to mention the wars he's been in. Lopez has to be the favorite going in. Props to Rafa for even considering such a dangerous opponent at his age, I wish him the best.

    Thats what it looks like.

But my source (the place where the boxing news is 24) doesn't even mention the fact that Lopez is fighting in July, which is no lamb in Conception, but it could mean they will skip Conception for the bigger fight in Marquez.

I hope Lopez stay's busy and keeps the fight in July.

yeah juanma is the bigger fighter and that i think will be the difference and the fact that juanma is younger.marquez been in warz and hes fighting a lethal puncher.after this i see him taking another fight and then maybe gamboa.

I would love for Rafa to turn the tides of reality (a fading, aging warrior vs a youthful undefeated powerful fighter) but everyone pretty much has said it, and i probably agree, Juanma might prove to be a bit too much at this stage for Marquez.

I will be rooting like crazy though for Marquez to pull this off, this win would be huge.

    War Marquez

The first Vazquez fight could provide an answer to the question of Lopez's size.

Marquez was completely unintimidated moving up to a new weight and taking on an incredibly strong and capable fighter in his first SBW challenge. He got hit hard early and often and his passion just became more inflamed and he may well have won even without the somewhat fluky nose injury.

Of course, he was closer to prime then...but he did still look a bit beastly last month.

Rafa will hold the same edge in boxing skill over Lopez that he held over Vazquez - not to say that JuanMa is some unskilled brawler but his natural talent has more to do with athleticism, while Marquez has years of augmenting his considerable innate ring IQ with the technical brilliance of Nacho Beristain by osmosis. Offensively, Marquez has more tools and employs them with more of a vicious demeanor - it really is Lopez' size and strength against Marquez's skill and will (handspeed at this point might be a wash, given their age...obviously in his prime and at his peak weight Rafael was much faster).

He is experienced in dealing with a world class bigger, stronger, younger man.

Lopez could well deck him a few times, but Rafael has never been put clean away. His almost fanatical resilience and his dervish ferocity are things Lopez has never dealt with, not even in his first significant taste of adversity with Mtagwa. That fight will seem like light sparring after a few rounds with Marquez, who I expect to set the pace early to try and take JuanMa's heart.

The question here is how much Marquez has left over the long haul. Obviously from his last two fights he can look fierce for a couple of rounds, and seems to wear featherweight well, but we have yet to see him endure over a long period of time and until we do it's still a mystery how much has been taken out of him by the trilogy and his previous wars at bantamweight.

sorry but juanma is not in the same league with rafa. rafa would take him to deep waters and drown him.

btw, what happened to juanma's supposed fight with bernabe concepcion?

Juanma has got this one because Marquez is old, battle worn, and fighting two weight classes above his natural weight. It's a good test for Juanma and will help build up his future bout with Gamboa. However, a prime Rafa at 122 beats Juanma.

Marquez is all those things, but are you basing your prediction based on those facts on paper, or on their respective form (how they've looked) in their last couple of outings?

That would be utterly humiliating; Concepcion is a zombie.

Both. I didn't think Rafael looked as good in his tune up and he seemed to be past it in his 4th fight with Izzy to me, but that fight was hard to judge with how shot Israel was.
