Of all the men who fought for a world title, recognized by BoxRec, who gained the most weight during his career? (From career-lightest to, subsequent, heaviest official weigh-in, as listed in BoxRec) Unfortunately, lots of pre-WW2 fighters have no weights listed for some (or many!) of their earliest bouts. For instance, George Carpentier's first (and lightest!) weight is recorded as 168 lbs several years into his career. Which of course is of no use to us in relation to this question... as we all know, he started out as a skinny flyweight. Same thing with Len Harvey. But, not to make this too complicated, let's agree that we only consider boxers, whose weights are listed in BoxRec.
probably roy jones think he wighed in once at like 156 and went all the way up to 200 he actually weighed in officially at 193 but was 200 as weigh in guy messed up
BOxrec should not be used as the measuring stick. Off the top of my head Willie Meehan and Young Stribling. Meehan started out around 93 pounds and went to at least 1981/2 (although he probably went much higher). Stribling started out at the most as a flyweight and probably smaller and went as high as a very in shape and muscular 195. So much for the theory that you need steroids to move up successfuly.
That's a difference of 80 lbs! Toney went from 157 to 237... also 80 lbs. But they are both beaten in this category by at least one man. Clue: Our man never won a world title.
Saul Montana (lost to Virgil Hill in a WBA LHW title fight, lost to Vassily Jirov in a IBF CW title fight) 168 - lowest recorded weight 251.25 - highest recorded weight
Both men started out at ages 15 and 16 and were obviously late bloomers in their physical development cycle. Well, not so much Meehan, who more or less ate himself up the weight classes. Either way, it's not as if they were fully grown and mature at their starting weights. I'm not saying you need steroids to move up in weight successfully, I'm just saying that using fighters that started off at such young ages and still had a lot of growing to do to prove it doesn't really justify your point. Especially with a fat ******* like Meehan.
For a gain of 83ΒΌ lbs! I can't swear, I haven't missed someone... but I believe this to be the correct answer.
I was referring to Pac who also started out at about 16 years old or so and only gained about 30 or 40 vs 90 or 100.
