You call this uncontained? Has anyone come up with even one single piece in writing? Even one other person saying the same? Even against fellow middleweights of less talent Monzon was more an accumulation type than a swift ko puncher. Monzon wouldn't KO Marvis Frazier let alone Joe.
If Joe Frazier was retired, out-of-shape and just caught on a bad day, and the Monzon session happened behind closed doors with no gossip-mongers about, I dont think it's even much of a story IF IT HAPPENED. It's only people like those who post on boards such as ESB classic who consider these things so important. Vito was making a point, and may well have been bullshitting 100%. Then again, he might have heard it somewhere else. And again, there may have been some sort of truth to it. It's NOT inconceivable that Frazier, out-of-shape and unprepared, was caught by a hungry serious Monzon is some ill-advised sparring session, some place, some time.
And if my auntie had balls she'd be my uncle. That's a lot of if's right there. It's well known Monzon never went too hard in sparring, and he'd be even less inclined to if facing a Frazier in the condition you envision.
I was once privy to jake matlala kayoing a great white. Granted it was only a sparring session,and the shark was 'between fights' duran style,but 'baby jake' still got the job done with 18 oz gloves underwater. 'Jaws was reluctant to comment afterwards and stated hed be back after talks with his manager a certain s.speilburg.' I'm simply saying it's not categorically impossible that Monzon KO'd Frazier in sparring under certain conditions. With all the millions of rounds sparred in all of history, many unlikely things have occured.
