Alot of people seem to justify that vitali could have/should have beaten lewis because that he was up on the cards at the time of the stoppage...i dont understand this tho, the cut was caused by a PUNCH..and from the looks of the cut it was the right decision to stop it...Lewis won fair and square so whats the fuss about?
At the end of the day.....the better fighter won. A lot of GREAT HW's won fights when they were behind on the cards, Lewis can be added to that list but for some reason the Klitschko lovers elevate their man to ridiculous levels because he was ahead on the cards. It's a fight, and fights aren't won on paper. Lewis grabbed glass VITLAY by the throat and forced him to fight, and VITLAY came up short because he wasn't tough enough. Marciano was behind on the cards in a few fights before he won, and so was Ali. For some reason this fight seems to keep generating threads, why? I'll tell you why, because for once the ageing champ ****ed up the promising contender, thus destroying the next 10 years of the belt, that's why :yep
good post...i just get sick of people making statements like, 'vitali would have won if not for the cuts' as if it wasnt caused by a punch...but i guess people always make excuses for when a fighter they like loses.
Funny if you listen to some people on here Vitaly wasnt even in that fight and was getting destroyed... It was a really good fight and who know how it would of went without the cut.
I just said in another thread that the scorecard for me was 3-3 not 4-2 in favor of Vitali. Lewis won and if the fight continued, Vitali would have hit the canvas and possibly lost an eye. One thing that is true though is that Vitali retired Lewis in this fight.
He wasn't a fat lard-ass like say, Kirk Johnson against Vitali or Buster Douglas against Holyfield. He wasn't in very good shape though. Vitali said afterwards he knew Lewis wasn't in good shape and tried to take advantage of his lack of conditioning.
