Well I've seen Ward a few times and I think he's the business - I really do. I see a superfight between he and Dawson coming around in a couple of years. He's quick, athletic, moves well, counters sharply and has all the tools. He keeps opponents at bay with a good jab up and down plus he can switch hit. He'll be near the top of the pound for pound list before he's done. He'll beat the **** out of Green and you're dreaming if you think otherwise. The Olympic Gold didn't come by accident and this ain't ****in Audley Harrison we're talking about. He wins the Super Six and the only guy to give him trouble will be Dirrell. You're also lucky if he's lost ten full rounds in his career! Will he transcend the sport? Different story!
he is a good BOXER,but his fighting style isn´t crowd pleasing IMO.He holds a lot,and used some dirty tactics in the Kessler fight. He could be the next topdog at SMW but i dont think he will become specially popular among fight fans. And i still think it´s completly unfair and ridiculous that he got all his Super six fights at home...That wont help him gaining respect among real fans.He should fight under the same terms as the other contenders in super six. I think he will have a great career. But i also think he wont be quite as popular as he could have been....
He'll only become a star with clever marketing and promoting. He is a gifted boxer yes, but he's no Pacquiao or Tyson in that he can put bums on seats due to his "wow!" factor. His bland style of fighting coupled with his non-flamboyant personality, means he won't be the superstar of boxing. But I'll still appreciate him for the boxer he is. He seems a nice guy too
I agree, he is an excellent boxer, but the Jesus thing will hurt his popularity, nobody likes a squeaky clean God botherer.:rasta
The circumstances? He beat Kessler from pillar to post like a dog that pissed on the rug. In doing so he cut Kesslers face to ribbons. A fight doesnt have to have a knockout to be a complete beating. This was kinda like Holmes-Cobb in its domination. If kessler had made it to the end it would still have been a an almost shut out beating of a life time for Mikkel.
Sven Ottke was a superstar in Germany! Ward is probably the next superstar in Oakland, but if he doesn`t get on a plane and fight abroad soon, i doubt the rest of the world will share that opinion!
An un educated approach to religion is probably a marketing benefit in America. He does have skills though, if he wins the super 6 he should be a star.
Ward is top fighter, no doubt about it. Personally, I just have a tendency to find his fights a little boring with the xception of the Kessler fight. I do not want to give him the 'nod' just yet. That 1 win over Kessler was amazing, but the tournement is barley concluding its 2nd phase. There is still one phase left plus the semi-finals and finals. :rasta
No. More like the Bernard Hopkins level of "superstardom." That's more of a likely comparison than Mayweather/Pacquiao. He has a pretty comparable style to Hopkins too. Boring, falls in and holds and leads with his head......
He's the American James DeGale. That headbutting ******* should be less worried about having his teeth whitened and more worried about having them knocked down his throat! I hope Green smashes him to pieces.
Andre Ottke. Hometown fighter if I ever saw one. Pathetic and I will never be a fan of a fighter with such a huge consistent advantage. Just like I am no fan of Ottke.
