Lets say fighter A throws 80 punches in the round and hardly any of them land clean , just scrapes and they hit shoulders and arms and they are blocked , slipped and parried.

Then fighter B throws 30 punches but lands 5 clean punches which are clear to see. Who wins that round? How do you score it? Now some people would say that fighter A outworked him but then others would say that the fighter A got outboxed.

Theres are alot of rounds like this in the Jirov-Toney fight and the Calzaghe-Hopkins fight.

I prefer the High accuracy but even I admitt it can look like that fighter is getting outworked so i understand judges scoring it to fighter A.

Mayweather vs Pac could have alot of rounds like this too.

How do you score these rounds?

I usually score rounds like that to the guy that lands the cleaner more effective punches

And although I don't like saying it, you can end the thread with this.

Yeah, this is hard to score. I usually give it to whose punches seem to have been the most effective, or just call it a draw until the equilibrium breaks in a later round.

the calzaghe vs horpins debate. i would give it to the fighter with higher accuracy but if more damage is done by the higher workrate fighter they would get it. depends on who has cleaner shots really

Well Calzaghe is a different story because his flurries are kinda cheap to me when it comes to point scoring, Hes kind of the perfect example of how a high WR can be exploited to easily win rounds.

Yes thats what i mean alot of you guys are saying the guy who lands the most effective punches but Calzaghe hardly landed any against Hopkins. I know Bhop didnt land much but he scored with his right clean only once or twice a round. Calzaghe won the fight wide on one card so judges do go for high workrate even if **** all landed

I don't care if Paul Williams throws 100 shots a round, if all those shots aren't doing anything and the other guy throws 20 and they do more, than the other guy wins. Simple as that

Answer: It depends. Calzaghe missed a lot, but hit B-Hop a lot more as well. By the end Bernard was completely frustrated. Judges see that and score it accordingly. It's the overall impression given. Hopkins didn't do nearly enough in return. Which is contrasted by the Williams v Martinez fight where Williams relied on punch volume but Martinez Definitely did enough in return. Different impression.

This is why I had Froch beating Kessler as Froch was landing some stunning shots and Kessler was flustering and missing - but fooling the judges.

you cant score a fight from compubox, and judges and the compu box scorers cannot do replay, so in essence the actual counting of whats scored and whats not by the high workrate guy will always be inaccurate, also what if half the glove hits the chin/shoulder how u score that ??

the accuracy we see are just estimates so in essence its really hard, if your scoring low but therefore stopping your opponent getting off is that agression effective ?

too many variables this is a fight by fight case and not a general thing to discuss IMO
