When did America start producing heartless fighters?

And by "heartless", I, sadly, don't mean cold, animalistic and ferocious, I mean a complete lack of courage and fighting desire.

It seems that with every other big fight that has an American competiting, you see a complete lack of desire. I saw a thread about Kevin Johnson earlier and that has probably got me going, plus lasts nights fight and a fellow Super 6 fighter, Andre Dirrell. As a fan, I want these guys to show me some desire but they don't. Wladimir Klitschko's record is full of guys who were outclassed, which is absolutely fine, yet showed no desire to win: Eddie Chambers, Hasim Rahman, Tony Thompson, Ray Austin, Chris Byrd. Thankfully his brothers record is better but jumping down a few divisions, can anyone try to defend Bernard Hopkins' actions against a completely outgunned Roy Jones?

There are, sadly, many cases of this. It's a shame but I considered watching last nights fight live but I didn't because I had the sneaking suspicion it would be poor. Maybe it's wrong to just assume a fight will be bad, but I don't ever expect fireworks any more, when watching an American boxer. Something has changed in the general mentality and that desire has faded.

Thankfully, there are still the Mosley's, Willliams' and Bradley's around but they are becoming a rare breed.

we still don't have heartless jokes like David Haye.

we do have dumb brawlers that get knocked the **** out though... we just don't consider them elite.

There has always been and will always be "heartless" fighters from everywhere.

For instance Puerto Rico has Kermit Cintron. In England, I don't know much about this guys career, but Junior Witter didn't exactly show heart last time out.

Do you mean D Haye who has won WBC WBA IBF RING CW Titles and is current WBA HW champ all in under 25 fights with most of his title wins away.
    Sounds like a right joke

When has Haye ever shown a lack of heart in the ring? When he was getting hit hard by a former world champion, far too early in his career, yet continued fighting? Maybe when he was cut to ribbons and knocked his man out? Possibly when he travelled to Paris, had to get up of the canvas before scoring a knockout? Or even when he broke his hand, had to adapt to a cautious style, yet still want for the knockout against a massive fighter in the 12th round of a fight he'd won, despite his "weak" chin?

You know who has loads of heart? He actually stands out amongst the American elite right now.

    No you're not.

I'm realistic about our fighters but I don't see a distinct lack of heart. Your Friday Night Fight shows are usually pretty poor for this reason, whereas our version on Sky is much better. On a world level, I really don't see your point either. Guys like Froch, Hatton, Khan etc., may be outclassed but they don't put in efforts like Dirrell's because that just isn't what we do.

You really want to compare UK fighters to Americans on heart?
You realize half of our fighters come right out of mexico?

I chose not to include those. Mexican's are ****ing tough and even if they're getting twatted, they still won't give in. I really like that. I don't see much difference between that mentality and ours, though, really.

Because of their culture, I recognize them as Mexican's more than American's, but I see your point. The ones like De La Hoya, who had loads of heart, I see as Yanks, then there are those like Vargas, who I'd count as a Mexican.

former champ of 2005 after many wars.

who will he fight next... somebody tell holyfield he might have a check coming.

He should man the **** up after his little promotional face to face mall escalator call out where wlad was laughing at him.

You are the last of the mohicans to still stick up for him... I'll give you that.
