Anyone who makes the comparison between Foreman (220lb destroyer) and Dempsey (190lbs at his best) isn't worth taking seriously, mate! PS - Frazier would actually put Dempsey in a finger roll and bite his ****in head off. Where do these people come from????????????
Loaded gloves, oven gloves, garden gloves! Who gives a ****? The fight is a hype job and Willard was a gigantic oaf who couldn't fight a lick. Join the ****in millenium.
I've read it all, years ago, and I don't need to read your particular article posted at this particular time. The evidence says he did it, and mostly later apologists say he didn't and try to nitpick the issue to death. Whether he did or he didn't makes no difference in this particular argument.
What evidence? There is none besides that his manager said he did(who he had a conflict of interest with). Tests proved that plaster of paris would have broken after the first punch? If dempsey's gloves were loaded it did not go down how kearns said it did. It IS possible that he had a bolt in his glove. But seeing how it was never found or recovered or identified, that's pure speculation. This content is protected Dempsey at the fight. As you can see, no plaster on those wraps.
Name me a heavyweight of "any significance" that spotted Dempsey a massive amount of weight! Make sure it's a fighter who could actually tie his own shoe laces!
That's not the point. What he was saying was that Frazier was 40 pounds heavier than Dempsey, which is clearly not the case. Frazier's typical weight was around 200-205, Dempsey in the 190-195 range. Hardly significant, particularly given that Dempsey BLEW AWAY guys like Willard who were MUCH larger than Frazier.
Yes, we're so hilarious for thinking that a wild swinging light heavyweight with no footwork and no technique would get slaughtered by modern heavyweight fighters. HAHAHAHAHAH
Totally get your first point but Willard was a "meatbag" so assessing Dempsey's talents against that heap is irrelevent! You surely don't rate Willard?
What are you talking about? No technique? He invented bob and weave technique. That was him. He cut the ring beautifully, which is more than a lot of blown up fatty heavies of today can say. Dempsey's technique certainly wasn't as refined as a lot of the infighters in later eras but to say that is just completely ignorant.
In his fight with Willard he swung cartoon punches like a school kid. Oh he broke this and he broke that! Couldn't care less, he looks like ****. His fight with Firpo is a disgrace. Two workers fighting over a pie! He was outboxed by Gene Tunney who circumvented the ring like a nervous drunk.
