anyway back on subject ...the TV/Multimedia deal warren has signed will also cover the image rights for his fighters ,so with the right decisions made,TOny Bellew could be huge in japan!as could the walsh brothers be big in north wales

 

everyone has not got sky, pretty much everyone who has a tv has access to bbc and itv1.

In a country of 65m people, about 10m have Sky and only half of them pay for the sports package. So, barely anyone has Sky. Moving all big boxing to Sky is the major reason the sport became sidelined in the 90s.

So, the best choice would be the BBC. Fact.

 

I'd love to see boxing on terestrial tv, obviously the most viewers are on free to air tv,

ITV or BBC could both do an excellent job showing boxing, but the chances of the beeb picking it up??

He is one thing that Warren has been 100% right about all along. His best performance came against a shot Danny Williams. Who'd already beaten him in a painfully boring fight.

I think you're misjudging how many Virgin customers buy Sky Sports. It was a bone of contention that's led Ofcom to rule that Sky need to reduce their wholesale prices so that Virgin and Freeview can offer Sky Sports without running a loss.

It's also a given that not every Sky customer subscribes to the sports package and even less subscribe through Virgin. So, at best you're looking around 7-8m of the total user base at best.

The reason the boxing got poor ratings on ITV4 is that its a minority channel, they barely promoted the events and it was a poor relation to the ITV1 stuff. That's down to the fight by fight basis ITV buy on, instead of running it as a season like ESPN do in the US.

Boxing on terrestrial is of appeal because it builds careers and viewership. Calzaghe wasn't even a big name in boxing before ITV put him on against Ashira. That coverage got people familiar with him working on the basis that it set up the Lacy fight. It requires a long-term investment and a commitment to giving it the presence required to build it.

Sky isn't the right answer to rebuild the sport in the UK. It's too niche, too restricted and just makes it even more of a cult.
