I understand that. I'm struggling to see what the difference is in their stances. As an Ali fan I'd like there to be one but I can't see it.

both residents within a country that is engaged in an, as they see it, illegal/unjust war against a third world nation and they have taken an unpopular stance against the war.

Exactly. The problem is (for me!!) I don't like what Small is doing whereas Ali was proven "right" in his stance.

Do you understand what I'm saying?

I get what you are saying.

But "White American" thought that Ali was wrong at the time and now "White Britain" thinks Small is wrong now.

I think that is the comparison he is trying to draw.

Mate. I get 100% what Small is saying with the Ali reference. I just wish it didn't make sense!!! I love Ali, he got me into boxing and he was right to take stance he did. I'm just ****ing a bit annoyed that Small is doing the same thing and its pissing me off. I feel like a hypocrite.

He's way off the mark. Different era time and place. Ali was fighting the estbalishement and the US government along with being a champion for civil rights. Small fits into none of those categories. He's just an egotisical *****. Naturally he's entitled to his opinion but he's certainly not going to set the world alight with his antics nor be remembered for anything memorable other than being a ****.

Look, you and I both know that we (Britain) are not all innocent. We both know that the Americans were funding the Taliban. Does that excuse what Small is doing? Heeeell no. I have no problem with protesting against the war, but I know you're not naive enough to think that's all Small and those other protestors are doing. Have a look at some of the messages on some of the placards at these demonsrations, have a look at the flags they are waving and then tell me what they really think of democracy and freedom of speech. Freedom of speech when it suits them. Surely Small is not so stupid that he doesn't realise the significance of what he's doing and how offensive it is.

Having a go at the soldiers is the wrong way to protest this war, it's tasteless, offensive and wrong. Small is talking about his "brothers and sisters" while insulting British troops. If he were to get his ass into trouble elsewhere, it's these same soldiers that would be saving his ass under orders from the British government. It's the British government that would assist him, he lives here, earns his living here, is provided for here and has the freedom to say whatever he likes here.

I wonder how strongly Small feels when his fellow brits are attacked. Does he protest then or does he not see most brits as his brothers and sisters? If he feels so strongly about it then why is it okay for him to enjoy the benfits that come with living in the land of the invaders while waving those flags around? If he feels so strongly about honour then why isn't he over where the action is trying to protect his people from the invaders? With freedom of speech comes responsibility.

Its very easy. Ali stood for and was willing to die for his civil rights as a black man in the United States.

Small is a ***** who gets to excercise the freedom that forefathers like Ali fought and laid there life down for.

    Its really that simple.

He's a long way from being alone in being against the war, it's not exactly popular. And that's fair enough, go complain outside parliamanet or picket one of Tony Blairs' next public speeches to get your point across. Calling soldiers who risk their lives murderers and baby killers just makes you a dickhead. They have no say in where they fight, they join to serve the country, if tommorow Germany decides to invade here again they'll be going to stop them no questions asked and I'll bet you'll be bloody glad they're doing it not you.

As for Ali and the anti-vietnam movement, they've been vindicated in their stance as it's been decided they were right, the Vietnam war shouldn't have been fought, but even 40 years later when draft dodgers have been pardoned people still think the protesters who through bags of **** and cursed at Americas' returning soldiers are cocks and rightly so.
