Whenever I see a thread pitting these two against each other, I notice people who pick Duran to win will be quick to say 'Duran did everything better then Chavez'. I'm not so sure I agree with that so I want others thoughts on this.

So I ask do you agree with that sentiment or not?

Off the top of my head, Chavez cut off the ring better, was more disciplined, focused and consistent in fights, dealt with a range of styles a little better, probably has a more technically sound punching style, probably has better punch placement and accuracy.

In terms of more traditional attributes/skills, I can't really think of anything Chavez does better, unless you think accuracy counts.

I think the sentiment reflects the fact that Duran is just a cut above, rather than there being one decisive edge that would turn the fight.

Agree for the most part. They were about even in terms of body punching. But I think Duran's overall versatility, skills, and defensive abilities take it for him.

Accuracy counts so you would disagree that Duran does everything better than Chavez.

I'll answer this question with a question, What could Chavez do more effectivly than Duran:huh.........zip

What seperates these 2 greats is that Duran is a better all round boxer than he's ever been given credit for, the biggest gulf is in defensive savvy, he was so hard to catch cleanly & never once let his opponants gain momentum if he'd been caught with a clean shot which was rare & the DeJesus II/III fight's showed this at it's best.

He just had more vesatilty too his game which became all the more evident when he started going up in the weights. Could you see Chavez take on Leonard & dictate the fight or go up to take on Hagler & last the 15........NO:deal

Duran had just a pile more guile & ring savvy in defence especially which was the launch platform for his multi-angled attack & that too me means he could do everything just that bit better than JCC:smoke

I think Chavez was a bit more polished and disciplined, or at least more consistently so.

While Duran was always technically skilled, he could get a bit wild and reckless as well, particularly in his lightweight days.

It appears that way when you watch JCC cut the ring off & unlease that laser straight right hand that never failed him & his full-proof body attacks, i just love watching JCC, a master indeed. But Duran is so deceptive:yep

His personna in & out of the ring distracted the viewer from really getting to grips with what appeared to be a maniac in the ring in his offence. Chavez had his up-front style but Duran's was perfection in the fact you could'nt get out of the way as he was able to suck in even the best boxers into a trap time & time again, Duran was methodical in being unmethodical if yer get me drift........You could'nt read Duran....it always appeared obvious what he was going to do but that was what spelled doom for his opponants, Duran would spring suprises from any angle & as we all know he never gave a **** about it looking preety as long as it ended violently:lol::D

Reading this post one would think Duran never lost a fight in his career.

First thing I thought of. Duran was consistend, disciplined and focused. Until he beat Leonard.

Chavez was a master at cutting off the ring. He was better than Duran at that. Duran was good at it but Chavez clearly better
