Perhaps his chin is being over-stated. I said this in my post. His stamina was never mind-blowing. In fact it was out-right bad at times. He had conditioning coaches saying he was grossly out of shape. Perhaps the link to his heart troubles.

But how did he lack finesse? Anything specifically in how he lacked finesse? Are you suggesting he didn't quite use all the dimensions he could've in his game? Fighting off the back foot more, jabbing on the outside more consistently, etc.

I'm just saying he was too tight. He never really loosened up when fighting, probably due to his tremendous bulk. It was just his style, not sure he was capable of fighting any other way, just letting it be known that it was likely a downfall of his. Very solid technically, but not loose or intuitive enough to be a truly great technician.

Well, I don't really see him as being an inconsistent fighter.

He turned pro at age 22 in late 1984. He did not lose until late 1992 at the age of 30. During this 8 year stretch he went 28-0 (22) overall, 10-0 (7) in World Title Fights, and 4-0 (1) vs. Hall of Famers.

The problem is he fought many of his better opponents when he was past prime.

I do think he has a good chance against anyone else in the top 10 ATG HWs. He might not win but i think all fights would be a war with him.

Evander Holyfield in my opinion is top-10 greatest pound for pound fighters ever...! ever..!

I think his boxing skills are underrated, people talk about fighters from the lower divisions moving up in weight classes, and fighting guys naturally bigger than themselves. Evander Holyfield has done that the whole of his career, and we are not talking about 4-6 pouunds, sometimes stones...........and nothing is made out of it.

Evander Holyfield feared no man, thought no moutain was to high to climb.

At 37 years of age, he went 24 rounds with Lennox Lewis, the second fight was a by far better fight from him. There was a moment in the second fight, when Lary Merchant just stopped commentating on the fight, and just simply admired Evander Holyfield.

"What a fighter this Evander Holyfield is, what a fighter" Larry Merchant

He is one of the true Legends still active in boxing, to bad the sport is not a part of culture anymore.

Evander Holyfield is a boxing God.

    Same here.

    Exactly.

Heck, look at how many opponents you could say Ali similarly "struggled" with - Norton (three times), Doug Jones, Cooper, Billy Daniels, Bonavena, Blin, Lyle, Wepner, Young, Shavers, Sonny Banks, etc., etc.

    And that's what matters.

    This. :deal

Anyone feel holyfield was great in rematches? should count for something. He is one of the few fighters of the era, who fought everybody, and most of the best he fought was at/near their primes.
