Apparently only 3 boxers are a box office draw in America

I'm not sure about that fight, but I do believe there was somewhere around 14k or 15k people there. I think Wlad could be a big draw here. However, he makes so much money in Germany that he's probably making less money in the U.S.

Maybe I'm living in Booradley-land or something, but I still think he draws big if he's fghting someone worth a ****. He may have crushed his own career by going into a turtle shell after the Hop fight, but I can't imagine him being that far gone, based on how much of a draw he was only about two years ago.

Any thoughts?

 

I think the issue lies with the internal politics of the sport that spill into the business end of it.

Who's Idea was it and why would you have P-Williams anc Cintron fight at the Home Depot Center, in Carson California :?

Make the bouts where the guys are from, there are sporting arenas and venues all over the United States, they would promote them as regional heros, then take them national and international.

Just goes to show how far back boxing has digressed.

Sad indeed...The talent pool is very low, but hopefully it changes and next era will bring us more talent.

 

Pavilk didn't even sellout a small college gym in his hometown when he fought Espino. His fight against Martinez was attended by less than 6,000 people. The paid attendance was certainly lower. I wouldn't call Pavlik a big draw. His drawing power seems to be dwindling as well.

 

Khan's gonna be the next big selling boxer. Pakistanis roll very deep and have deep pockets especially in the UK.

In General, boxing tickets are generally overpriced for the action that you get.

I think if Pavlik fights a decent guy, he can draw PPV #s still. But you're right. He has dwindled a lot since he got his soul taken.

 

There are enough other guys who can pull well in their 'home' locations. Pavlik still draws pretty decent in AC. Ward's been pulling 10k in Oakland on a regular basis. Obviously this isn't the US, but Bute can draw 15k to watch him fight someone's grandma. Lower level guys like Bradley and Alexander and even the guy in my avatar (Guerrero) pull decent crowds when they're fighting at home. The national followings for PPVs might not be there yet, but that takes time.

 

The announced attendance to the Green fight was 8,800. So we know there was less than 8,800 that paid. Bradley is getting something like 2,000 people for his fight. Alexander has potential. We'll see how his fight with Kotelnik goes.

 

Another one I forgot is Juanma Lopez. He regularly sells out the theater at MSG, and pretty soon he'll be ready for the big boy room.

There are a few others that are odd regional draws - guys who aren't world class, but get people to see them locally. Peter Manfredo Jr., Jimmy Lange and Jesse Brinkley all fall into that category, and I'm sure there are plenty of others.

He's only fought there twice. The first time the announced attendance was only a little over 3,000. His fight against Luevano had an announced attendance of a little over 5,000. Who knows what the paid attendance was and if it was a true sellout.

 

I was sitting there for the Luevano fight. It was a packed house, and the incredible thing about it was that it was a packed house LONG before the main event. That's the only major card I've been to where everyone was in their seats for all the undercard bouts.
