Keep in mind that I'm not saying that Liston doesn't have a chance or that Wlad would KO him with the first right hand he threw. This idiot was saying that Wlad would **** himself in the staredown. That's ridiculous since Wlad's faced well over 50 fighters in his professional career. He's also well off financially so at this point it's safe to say he continues fighting because he actually enjoys it just like he's said in many interviews. Truth be told I think Wladimir would take a wide decision against Sonny & he might even get the KO late in the fight. Liston did have a good jab though & plenty of power so a Liston win isn't out of the question either. I just don't see a Liston decision win as you can count the rounds Wladimir's lost in the last 5 years on one hand.
Liston had one of the best hooks of all time now? According to Q, he probably also had one of the best right hands of all time, best lefts to the body of all time, best right uppercuts of all time, best chins, best hearts, best feet, best ring IQ, blah blah blah nuthug nuthug nuthug. After all, he cleaned out the division (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and beat A-level Pernell Whitaker-level slick boxers like Eddie Machen (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).
McGrain? Liston's left hook was sluggish, sometimes even telegraphed Hatton-style, and often left him falling in or generally out of position. It was an undeniably powerful tool made effectively largely due to Liston's admittedly top-notch timing and punch-picking, but not a great technical weapon in itself.
Technique wise - no not usually. Could he KO a man with either hand and hurt a man with anything he throw? Yes, he's the definition of heavy handed (some of these punches were sloppy but the power in Liston's shoulders mean they still cause concusive damage) [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQhWHZ9xdF8[/ame] BTW MAchen was a bad ass slickster
Liston's left hook was so natural. It flowed off his arm effortlessly. He was so dangerous with it because it could be thrown long(Bethea, Williams II, Whitehurst II round 10) or short(Williams I, patterson II). I have never heard it called "sloppy" before. It doesn't look sloppy. it looks smooth, powerful, and fast at times. Some of liston's best knockouts(Valdes, Folley, DeJohn) are not even on film.
Not the biggest Liston fan around the block, nor am I of Wlad. I think Liston wins if he's at his best mentally. If he's willing to take some powerful jabs. The problem is Wlad doesn't have a pace, work-rate, or mobility to really trouble Liston. I see Liston eating some jabs and then pressuring Wlad. I feel that Wlad will have an awful difficult time dealing with Liston's fire-power and offense in general. Liston I think can do decently boxing with Wlad, although he would lose that battle. Eventually he'll go after Wlad and Wlad is going to be there to be hit. You just have to slip a few jabs or take a few punches. If Liston gets inside, Wlad will most likely crumble. And when I say inside, I really just mean a mid-range where Liston can throws some titanic punches. He's not going to get frustrated with a target he can't hit like Ali. And if somehow Wlad bangs him so much, then Liston will shell and crumble. But this is not the likeliest of scenarios. Basically Liston KO would be my pick.
Liston's main weakness - his lack of footwork - might cause trouble here. If he doesn't get his jab going and can't close the distance, he could end up being prodded to death.
I am liking Liston here. None of the superhevyweights have ever really had the all round technical ability of Liston, and he had an ideal set of tools to beat them. He had the range to reach them, yet he was still short enough to duck under.
I wouldn't loose too much sleep over that douchebag if I were you. If people reported him he would quickly be banned, but people seem to enjoy having a laugh at his posts.
For starters little man, Lennox would beat Rocky or Dempsey in my opinion. That makes the rest of your post null & void.
