Remember falling in love with watching Arturo Gatti, Corales, Barerra, and Morales?
They are some of the fighters (and plenty more not mentioned) that took the lower weight classes to a new level. Heavyweight boxing disappeared and we were happy because wars and trilogies emerged that changed everything.

People flocked to watch Arturo and the Mexican warriors and were mesmerized with how these guys were willing to literally die in the ring.
No matter how battered, how much blood dripping from they're faces, they always found a way to get back up and keep fighting.

There was a deep integrity to the fans and to the sport. It brought excitement and kept boxing alive. I know it more than captivated me.

What was special about Manny was he was one of these fighters and besides bringing this integrity in the ring he began to work on it the same way outside the ring with Roach. He emerged as the guy that could box as well as a Floyd Mayweather but had the other dimension - the willingness to go through any extreme to make a good fight.

Floyd always mentions it is a business "I fight for money"
I don't care how fast he is and how great his pedigree is you still need to prove yourself. I truly do not think he has the warrior heart or the willingness and integrity to the fans to step up and risk anything.
We let him get away with it as he distracts us with his talk and Sr's talk and everyday there is another outrageous comment. The comments surpass the action he provides in the ring where he is supposed to earn his money.

Look at the Rookie Stephen Strasberg from Washington. Everyone hyped him up. Did he say in my first game against Pittsburgh I want the batters to have heavier bats and weighted shoes so I have an advantage? In horse racing the call that a handicap. That is used in reverse when the better opponent is the one to carry more weight or have the disadvantage against the favorite. When Floyd fought JMM why did he have to be the bigger man? What does that prove? Nothing. Just as many of his other fights have done, show us nothing new.

Until he fights Manny, Paul Williams, Cotto and we see him tested nothing matters. That is why he did not win fighter of the decade. His father claims Manny lost before to nobodies and his son has zero losses. Manny lost fights, but that is what took him to the level he is at now. You do not start out anywhere at the top you have to work and build to that point.

Floyd never built himself to that point because his ego and fear of not having a zero on his record could prevent him from doing what he loves best - talking everyday how he is the greatest.
Don't be fooled he is not one of the warriors that will do anything to please you the fan, the one that spent your hard earned money on the fight.

I am asking anyone that will listen to boycott another Mayweather fight where he avoids the danger, the essence of a legend.

Great defense is not an easy thing to master. Sometimes a great offense is an even better defense. A great heart can never been trained for or obtained. One can only be born with one. Usually those possessing the heart rarely brag or boast. Manny is one of the few fighters that has all three. He was born with the heart, developed the offense and worked on his defense by facing the very best OFFENSIVE warriors in the game.

Look at the betting line if Manny were to face Floyd.
Floyd would be the smallest favorite he has ever been in his career. That says it all. It would be hands down his hardest and most dangerous test of his career. Never has he been anything less than a 2 or 3-1 favorite.
Never has he faced a vicious offensive fighter in or around there peak.
The only thing it says is that he does not want to face anyone that has a legitimate chance of beating him and if he does there most be a handicap against that fighter to put the advantage on Floyd before the fight begins.

He gets over 1 million people to buy every one of his fights, and that is 1 million tv's (probably at least 3 or 4 per tv) and is the only TRUE crossover megastar in boxing....and he is "bad for the sport"?

    Shut the **** up

He's bad for boxing in the long term, yes.

He is ruining the demand for super fights by making them unreasonable.

I know right? It is TOTALLY unreasonable to want decent standards for professional boxing. How dare he ask for the most effective testing regimen that is used by Olympic athletes all over the world when boxing in 8oz gloves that could seriously injure him or worse in a pro fight. The nerve!

I agree he does the sport no favours, just himself and I don't respect that.

His fans make me want to vomit more than he does though.

    They are leading the charge!!

Let's turn boxing into WWE.... I didn't want to think of it as athletic competition anyway.

Let's promote a pretty good boxer with every dollar we can to convince the world he is the goat, then we'll keep away other stars so no one steals his shine!
    It's perfect!!!

It's called a glass ceiling ***s, look into it.

Right moron. Sugar Ray Leonard was just one dude when he asked for a championship fight to go 12 rounds. Sugar Ray Leonard was just one dude when he had thumbs attached on gloves. Mike Tyson was just one dude when he asked Holyfield to drug test.

Then again, if you actually participated in the sport instead of clucking on here you would understand the concern.

He's not a true crossover megastar. He's popular now with the same people he's been popular with, the hip-hop crowd. And he's bilking them because they don't really care about boxing, they care about their stars.

He doesn't care that much about money. He wants a lot of it, but he's settled for less than he could've made by taking on guys that real boxing fans weren't interested in seeing. His "crossover" fans (if you insist on using the word) would pay to see him fight Jake Lamotta tomorrow night, and then claim it proves he's better than Robinson if he knocked him out. But real boxing fans know he hasn't stepped up to the plate against a legit contender since he was at 135.

He's bad for one segment of society. Trailer park dick sucking ***s like you lukeo and kel.

But he's brought more publicity to the sport then its had for a long time. If it wasnt for Mayweather, where would boxing be? We'd have on crossover star.

Anyone that believes that Floyd is bad for the sport probably dropped out of high school so they cant afford his fights anyway. :good
