How would he have done against the top fighters in the heavyweight's golden age ? The way I see it is,he'd lose against the Muhammad Ali up to and including Zaire. After that he'd be a slight favourite against the Manila version, and more so after that. George Foreman would always be a nightmare for him, similarly to the way he was against joe Frazier. The Frazier of FOTC would be a slight favourite against him,but I'd lean towards Rocky against any version of him after that. I'd make Holmes a favourite. Ken Norton would put up a fair fight for a while, but his vulnerbility against heavy punchers would ensure a Rocky victory in the end. Jimmy Young would lose but last the diastance. Quarry,Shavers,Bugner et al would fall. How does everyone else see this ?

Ali goes 2-1 against him, Foreman beats him, Frazier is a toss up, Shaves/Lyle/Quary are hard fights he'd be favourite in but has the chance to be upset to

I feel Shavers/Lyle/Quarry are tailor made for Marciano to crush. Of course if Shavers,Lyle land..they have a shot vs anyone...but they might not be able to hit Marciano cleanly in that crouch with a big right hand. I feel rock was more susceptible to sharp counters, than he was to heavy blows. I think Jimmy Ellis(at his best) and Jimmy Young are difficult fights for the Rock. Norton folded against big punchers and he would fold against Rocky. Foreman prolly blasts Rocky away. Frazier-Rock is a close one. Rocky loses to 1960s Ali, but 1970s Ali? Idk.

I'm pretty much in agreement here.

I think Ali throws too many punches up until around his 3rd fight with Frazier for Marciano to be able to win a decision, and I would see it going the distance. I don't think late 70's Ali would hear the final bell.

Yep, Rocky would crush Shavers/Lyle but fast, elusive, and mobile fighters might trouble him. Counter-punchers are a good bet, and Quarry is a great counter-puncher but if he fights anywhere near the way he did against Frazier than Marciano might pulverize him even earlier than Quarry had. I think Quarry gets too macho/tough so I do agree that he's tailor made for Rocky.

You forgot to mention how well-muscled Norton was.
