Very Good Fighter. Probably deserves a ranking amongst the top 30 heavyweights of all time.

It is really impressive what Jerry did to Ron Lyle, Earnie Shavers, Mac Foster..3 of the hardest hitting heavyweights of the era, big guys too.

I can agree with that, Suzie. Imagine what he could've done to Foreman.
I think Quarry would dominate this heavyweight picture.

His fights with Spencer, Mathis and Lyle were masterpieces.

Very good fighter. I rank him the seventh best heavyweight of the 70's. The golden decade of that division. If he'd come along at a different time,he'd have no doubt been a world champion.

He would have countered Foreman. Not saying he would've won but he would've given him a tough fight and he wouldn't have crumbled.

His resume is as good or better than even some lineal champions I can think of.. While Jerry is thought highly of in many circles, I think that his acheivements are hidden in the shadows of greater men in one of the best eras ever.

on paper, it may seem as though Quarry would be a tough match for Foreman... But, in all reality, Foreman's chin was superior to Shavers, Lyle, or Foster's, and his two fisted attack, far more lethal.. Quarry might steel a round or two away from George, but I think he ends up getting battered to a stoppage... Muhammad Ali and Jimmy Young were far better technical boxers and both more durable than Quarry was, but it took them many rounds and taking many hard shots, before sealing the win.... Quarry isn't surviving the kind of hell that those guys did....

Seeing Jerry Quarry's name saddens me. All I can remember is the savage beating he gave Joey Orbillio -- his close friend -- in a three-round exhibition -- supposedly just for laughs 'n nostalgia -- at a California Hall of Fame ceremony.

Jerry looked in fighting shape 'n was decked-out in full battle gear: his real robe 'n trunks. Orbillio had an ample spare tire 'n was in sweats 'n a T-shirt.

When the bell rang Orbillio came out with a big grin 'n touched gloves. Jerry wailed on him with all the ferocity of his biggest knockouts. The crowd -- all boxing vets -- shouted for it to be stopped.

The tradition of good-natured sparring between old opponents during the HOF ceremonies ended that night, and has never been resumed.

Knew Jerry; he was a helluva good guy, 'n damn bright. What none of us knew is the toll dementia had taken.

Quarry, as much as I liked him, wouldn't get past Foreman. Let's be realistic here.

Well, this is for the benefit of everyone else...I must announce with much regret that this wonderful, unbaised, and thought provoking poster Chris Warren, aka "KenNorton804" has (sob) put me on his (sob) ignore list..:verysad..I'm almost speechless with grief at the thought of it, why this is so sad..it ranks right up there with when the oldies cable tv channel stopped showing afternoon reruns of the Brady Bunch (sob):-:)-((...Ol' Chris W/Ken Norton (whatever the **** he calls himself) is really quite good at using the "ignore function" after all..I mean he's previously put on "ignore" any kind of knowledge and truth that's ever come his way..his mantra has always been "why let any factual information and unbiased reasoning interfere with any skewed, racist and hate-filled **** that I might come up with?" Yeah, he's used the ignore function all throughout his life....it's far too much fun just being an agenda driven, ignorant racist.

    Jerry Quarry,,,,,,,,,

Wonder what a Ali-Quarry bout in late-1968 would be like.

Jerry Quarry was near perfect versus an excellent conditioned #2 Thad Spencer.

But the California Kid developed stamina problems,
