Agreed, Curry wasnt at his best but was still one of the best in the world. Superb win.

I felt after the Curry fight, where he clearly adopted a more aggresive style, he fell into more aggresive tendancies and relied on his power as you say. Basically beating Curry in the only way he could made him think he could fight like that all the time, when he shouldnt have thought that.

Kinda like Hatton being a pressure fighter turned mauler after the Tzsyu fight.

On the day I was born it was Lennox Lewis vs Frank Bruno, and Joe Calzaghe's pro debut.

Apart from the excellent Curry win I think the wins over the then undefeated Maurice Blocker his mandatory number 1 contender who was later good enough to win the world title says how good Lloyd was at his best. Whatever anyone says no one has eliminated the likes of Johnny Bumphus and Gene Mad Dog Hatcher the way Lloyd did. Vaca was good enough again to win another world title so was another victim of his Rossi. Honyghan won every title available to him, Southern Area, British, Commonwealth, European, WBC, WBA and IBF. He fought the best he beat the best and lost to the best. I admire him a lot. Was a very good alllrounder fighter at his best who suffered with fragile hands but could punch at the weight. He and Simon Brown at their very best would have been interesting. Some would think the animal in Brown would win I suspect the the better all round skills of Honeyghan and defece would win but it would be tight but his ability is close to Buddy McGirts with more power.

Brown would stop a very aggressive Honeyghan IMO. Too much power, even though Honeyghan could hold a shot well before his body started falling to bits.

Hatcher and Bumphus were both done by the time they moved up to 147 to fight Honeyghan. Lloyd did what he had to do but those 2 muggings, while great to watch, don't tell you anything about what level of fighter Honeyghan was.
