People who think Duran has one important win are neophytes at best.

    Marcel
    Kobayashi
    Buchanan
    de Jesus
    Ishimatsu
    Palomino
    Ray Leonard
    Cuevas
    Moore
    Barkley
    Castro

hmm.. what do they have in common?

I don't think he has 1 important win, I think he gets massively overrated off that win. Take it away and his all time rating takes a massive nose dive

How i saw it. I had the Whitaker fight a draw but always felt Pernell's point deduction was questionable, if not for that, i had Pernell, but draw anyway, i gots to be fair.

Well i expected this but not from you. The thing is though PP, it's clear to see how good a fighter Duran was in his prime. Like you say, it;s not like he just had one big win and never touched that level of performance at any other time in his career, like Buster Douglas for instance, i think this mention is void personally.

I don't underrate Duran, I think he's great, better than maybe any LW in history including Armstrong, its just the high likelyhood of being pelted with rotten eggs for picking against him and his elevation to god like status makes me :pukke

I don't think Douglas is overrated, I think he's underrated because he only put his heart and soul into a short space of time. Not saying he's the best ever but he was a great talent for a short time

I know you don't underrate him PP. I'm not part of any bias brigade when it comes to Duran either, i know you're not saying i am, but what pisses me off is that loads of people have a problem with the heavy praise of Duran, and lets be honest, a lot of it is straight up trolling (and i'm not talking about Pachilles, but others) which lead to posters defending Duran, which in turn has lead to you being pissed off. Duran should just be rated for what he is just like anyone else.

And the majority of people who regularly post here do just that in my opinion.

Whitaker was a buggering genius, but if you take away the Chavez and Nelson fights, it makes things interesting despite the remaining number of good fighters he beat. Seeing how brilliant he was on film would still work strongly in his favour when assessing his place in history, but if we'd never seen him do it as he did against JCC or Nelson, there'd be a few more question marks around him.

    How exactly is Duran over-rated?

My main gripe is the underrating of Leonard, I'm suprised there aren't more fans who are fans of both, these fighters, its amazing how many hate Leonard. Most of the bollox I talk about Duran is to **** off his hardened nuthuggers and the Leonard haters

However if the constant talk 'Montreal Duran' isn't overrating a fighter off 1 fight, I'm not sure what is.

In a way perhaps its natural to underrated/overrate 1 of them given they both had dominant performances against each other in 1 6month period

In that it's sacrilegious around here to rate Leonard over Duran, given he went 5-1-1 against the same opposition Duran went 1-5 against

It's also sacreligious to rate Hasim Rahman over Sugar Ray Robinson, I'd imagine. You'll have to provide reasons for this one.

You know what PP, i do read your posts, (as you'll know i praised you as a good poster when you were getting slated not long ago) but i didn't even know you said negative stuff about Duran!

And yeah, you'll probably know my stance on the 'Montreal Duran/88 Tyson/Honeyghan on the night he beat Curry etc excuse stuff, i hate that. Duran is my favourite fighter of all time, it doesn't mean i have to make excuses about him. Same for Tyson, i loved Tyson as a kid, i miss him now, but when people say 88 Tyson as if it's not the same Tyson that got beat by Douglas, i cringe.

I'd say Barry gets underrated if anything these days. People were OK about him until he somehow managed to finagle his way into the HOF, but there's been a bit of a backlash against him since then.

Most on here have him being slaughtered in the majority of h2h's when I think he wouldn't have been an easy night's work for anybody.
