You just said it yourself. He "Somehow" managed to finagle his way into the HOF. The reason? He beat Pedroza. This one victory allowed him into the hall of fame, and entry he does not deserve. So he is overrated by people who think he is hall of fame calibre.

 

You do realize duran was a lightweight for ****s sakes dont you. How do you think pernell whitaker, benny leonard or any other lightweight would do against leonard, hearns and hagler?

 

When he fought Leonard in New Orleans he was THIRTY (30) years old. He had been a pro for 13 YEARS. He had a reign of terror in the lightweight division that hadn't been seen since Benny Leonard's time. Some people don't seem to realize this.

Roberto Duran was 29 years old when he fought Sugar Ray in New Orleans. I know I know..just sayin.

 

29 & 1/2 years old, 73 fights and 13 years into his career.

IMO, Cooper's power is often overrated cause he knocked down a green overconfident Cassius clay.

Duran was a lightweight from the 1970s, and Leonard was a welterweight from the 1980s.

Therefore of course Leonard did better at welter, light-middle and middle in the 1980s than Duran did. atsch

Also, you seem to be acting like a great win doesn't deserve a lot of credit. The fact is, he *did win* that fight - and that deserves credit in the form of a much higher rating. Just as you can't overstate a win massively, so you can't act like it doesn't matter at all.

In fact, this whole thread is kinda stupid because most examples are ones like this. It's like saying Ali wouldn't be so highly rated if he lost to Foreman. Well, no **** Sherlock. What next - Bill Gates wouldn't be so rich if he didn't have so much money? Megan Fox wouldn't be hot if she didn't have such a pretty face? You guys crack me up

 

Tua also KO'd John Ruiz and a plenty more dangerous and worthy contenders of his time.

 

Corrie Sanders also has a decision win over Ross Puritty , and 1st rd. stoppages over Carlos De Leon , Michael Sprott and Al Cole , and then a 2nd rd. stoppage over Bobby Czyz. At least he could handle smaller men (except of Puritty and Klitschko) better than Joe Louis , Jim Jeffries , Muhammad Ali and even better than your other hero : Sonny Liston.
And I even did not mention a 10 rounds decision over Johnny Nelson.

 

But Sonny Liston is underrated.
Here is my first idea : Sonny Liston . Yes , he has 2 impressing wins , but they are both against the same fighter : Floyd Patterson.
And while one can consider Cleveland Williams dangerous (maybe for a LHW like Patterson) , Williams would have done worse than Joe Mesi did in Mesi's era , just like he did worse in his own era.

While I agree with you about both Foreman and SuzieQ , Marciano still deserves some credit for his wins which came against men about his own size whom fought years later (except of Louis and Walcott) , not that I think he would have stopped Lewis , or even last the distance against him.
