What's it gonna take to beat Mayweather?

Given this thread was based on a hypothetical opponent with a set of attributes and, given I have already stated I am not sure who might possess the set I have put forward, that's a bit of a leading question that can only end in a separate debate altogether.

My point was that it is not necessarily the case that no one exists, who can beat Mayweather and this point stands, regardless of whether I provide Boxer's name or not, in answer to your question.

 

To beat Mayweather,it will take Supreme Intelligence and one nasty attitude.Think James Toney.Not the early one either.The heavy weight Toney.That intelligence,style,attitude and patience.Floyd is used to people trying to bully him and out box him.But it will take a patient fighter who is a low volume puncher,winning rounds where he lands 8 punches but Mayweather only landed 6.To some that would be a boring fight but that is the only fight I see where Mayweather loses.

 

A mean attitude. Void is mean as hell on the inside.

No I meant mean outside the ring like Toney.Someone who is not trying to be meaner than "prettyboy" in a press conference,but someone who is meaner than him in real life and may have stabbed or shot someone and got away with it.Also think Ricardo Mayorga.All antics are off with someone who doesn't give a damn out of the ring and is comfortable in it.Like I said,low volume puncher winning rounds 8 punches to 6.Boring to some but not me,and Mayweather may not be aware he is losing the fight.

Anyway, I truly believe angles is what's gonna beat Floyd. Not necessarily pressure and volume of punches because even if someone is exceptionally good with pressure or throws a lot of punches, if that someone uses it in a conventional way(like 90% of boxers do), Floyd's still gonna be able figure him out and predict his movement and punches.

Pressure + Punching in different angles is what I think could cause Floyd his defeat. An unorthodox style would cause Floyd to over think too much, not to mention he would have less success in studying them compared to a conventional boxer.

That's why I believe Pacquiao has a really good chance of beating him, contrary to popular belief in this forum.

Yes, that's what I'm talking about. Someone who's hood and their mean attitude carries into the ring. I find dudes like pac, williams, martinez, etc to be too professional. Lampley was talking about how mean Void is.

Pac throws punches round as hell to get his crazy angles; he often drops his non punching hand to pull back and generate leverage for his punch. A counter puncher's dream. Kid can barely keep his left hand glued to his face whenever he throws his right jab.

 

A skill, elusive, fast, counter puncher,with a good defence.

 

That's easier said than done. Floyd, as great as he is, can't just counter Pac at will while he's getting hit himself. As I said, Pac's unorthodox punching style will cause Floyd to think more than he's ever had before. He can counter all he wants, he can also study Pac's defense all he wants, and he's gonna have success with it don't get me wrong. But at some point, he's gonna HAVE to study Pac's punching method as well AND he's underrated unorthodox movement. Otherwise, he's gonna get hit more often than he likes. And that's where I think Floyd will have his difficulties. He will figure out how to counter Pac, he will figure out Pac's defense. But I don't think he's gonna have alot of success figuring out how to not get hit by Pac's punches coming from every angle. I have never seen Floyd deal with that kind of style before.

If only Floyd had the counter-punching activity of a Juan Manuel Marquez, then I would've gave this fight to him no problem. Unfortunately for him, he doesn't.

 

Wrong.The more activity in front of Floyd,the less he will have to think.I believe you misinterpret his reflexes with his intelligence.His reflexes are the source of his counter punching ability,intelligence only shows up there in his restraint.His intelligence shows up more clearly and dominantly in his ring generalship.Active opponents makes everything easier for Floyd,especially someone with a **** poor connect percentage like Emmanuel.

 

I think you have to have equal or better stamina, equal or better handspeed, fast footwork, good counter-punching and the ability to throw feints, above average work-rate, outstanding courage, and good to excellent power.

Manny Pacquiao has all of the above, and yet he brings many of his own flaws to the table as well. That's what makes this such a good match up.

Sugar Ray Leonard, Sugar Ray Robinson, Thomas Hearns, and Roberto Duran would probably all beat Floyd prime for prime, or at least they would all be the favorite to win in my opinion.

I have Floyd as the slight favorite against Pacquiao, but it is still a good fight and Pacquiao definitely has a good chance to beat him.

Sergio Martinez would also have a considerable chance to beat Mayweather, and I'd be very surprised to see him get handled like Mayweather's last 2 opponents.

 

Once Void gets his timing down he'll beat emmanuel to the punch, and there won't be no chances for emmanuel to string combos. Easy fight.
