Just watching Buncey's British Boxing Heroes. When he said that Minter won the title from Vito Antuofermo then defended it in a rematch and then lost it to ''Marvelous'' Marvin Hagler all in 6 months.. i have to admit my jaw dropped :yikes. Talk about taking no easy fights and no resting on laurels. Considering we had that idiotic thread about him being poorest Middleweight champion. These so called champions nowadays wouldn't have the balls to of done that.

    Fair Play To Minter.

What Other Crazy/Short Title Reigns Are Like This.

Maybe Evander Holyfield's first reign as champion, was quite tough...!

    George Foremans first reign..?

Tony DeMarco won a tko victory over Johnny Saxton in 1955 to win the welterweight title and then fought Carmen Basilio 70 days later I believe and lost, no shame there. Fought Basilio again in his next fight and lost. Toe-to-toe battles though.

Yeah they both had tough starts. They didn't go back to back in 6 months though but Evander didn't hang about..after being Qawi he rattled off defences of title.

Incidentally the title of this thread would make a great title for the book, no?

Gotta love the old timers. They punished there bodies in training then the fights but no 6 months lay offs for them. As you say no shame in losing to Basillo.

I'd love to ask Tony what he did during his couple of months as a champ.

In 7 months, Benn fought in America against DeWitt to win the WBO belt, defended it against Barkley in Vegas, then returned to fight Eubank in England.

Not as good as Minter's run, but a pretty good one nonetheless :yep

Cor!!..All 3 of them fights were hard battles..That's a great shout :good.

It just goes to show that modern day fighters are far to scared to lose and promoters have big say on that.

That's pretty impressive if you ask me.

I really must grab a hold of a Benn career set.
