It has been confirmed by Bute's trainer this morning. Date and venue are still TBD.

Not a bad fight, really. Brinkley's been on a nice roll as of late (albeit against B and C level opposition), comes to fight and is a fairly entertaining fighter. Plus, I believe he is a mandatory challenger, so after this fight, Bute can hopefully go on to bigger and better things. If Bute comes prepared, he should be able to stop Brinkley in the later rounds, possibly the middle rounds.

I would have prefferd Bhop. Wouldn't you? If Bute is fighting once or twice a year it's hard to believe Hopkins will listen to Alphaville - Forever Young until then.

    Well, this sucks....

Hopefully, they will give us an explanation as to why the Hopkins fight isn't happening.

There's no need for an explanation. He is mandatory. Don't fight Jesse = lose the belt. I'm dissapointed that Bute team didn't manage to do something to postpone the Brinkley fight (some incentives like money or empty promises :)) bunt I do not blame them. Now I hope Bute finishes Brinkley in under 4 rounds so Brinkley understands that this is a mismatch. Maybe I'm too harsh on this guy but that's not the match I want to see at this level of Bute's career. ... Competition is fierce.

At least, if he had faced him in July...

Blame Romania for all this :D. They kept him like a dog outside a doughnut shop. That really pisses me of! Bute wanted to do something for his country but he was only kept from working. I hope this didn't affect Bute too much. He's kind of sensitive with this stuff (patriotism and all this ****).

I dont like fight but Brinkley has earned the title shot and the payday. Ill be rooting for him but he's going to need a miracle to pull off a win.

I'm not against the Brinkley fight per say. I'm against the fact it has taken them 6 months to fight him. Wasting an entire year during Bute's prime.

Garbage fight, but it is a mandatory. So who knows when Bute will be really tested.

Even now, why wait until October? It's in 4 months! Bute doesn't need 4 months to prepare for Brinkley! 7 weeks would be enough. Make the fight at the end of August. I know, there is Dawson-Pascal in Montreal at that time, and there is a chance for Froch-Abraham in Montreal in September. That may explain why Interbox chose October.

Let's hope some deal is done for after Brinkley (Pavlik or Hopkins).
