Round 9 of Pavlik-Martinez is a thing of beauty.

you make it sound like you lost money on him hahahashah
Ok, he may have been a bit over-rated because he comes from the classic heart of america, ya know. Thats how his story was sold at least. Cant beat a small, coal-mining town, blue-collar worker, local trainer type of story. And he was knocking out opponents left and right, though he was kind of a 1trick pony.

Forget whining about how Pavlik was a bit over-rated and hyped, and give Martinez some friggin justice! He was SORELY under-rated....

I did lose money on Pavlik. He is going to get destroyed at 168. I am not going to say that it's a sure thing or easy money, but I am laying down once he fights stiff competition at 168.

This guy reminds me of Diego Corrales when he couldn't make weight.

    A KO ready to happen.

I dont think he was overrated at all, you didnt see him in p4p lists, nobody was calling him great (besides a few die hard fans maybe) and nobody gave him the title, he got to where he was by KO'ing fighters that at the time were relivent and dangerous, and took the strap from the reigning champion. The guy has met the downslope of his career, and there are seemingly always those who will say these former world champions are jokes/bums/*insert insult here*

Pavlik is a good, but limited fighter..... he is good enough to operate on a world class level, and will win some, and lose some, against world class middleweights. I feel he has met the end of his road though and if he moves up it will be the end of his success. We shall see.

    lol your right....
I expected Pavlik to beat Martinez myself. I DID see the Williams/Martinez fight and felt that Martinez should have won a split.... he's just awkward, crafty, and unorthodox for the judges. But he did show he's got PHENOMENAL timing in his punches, and he did a number on the slower Pavlik.
Looking back, its obvious that Martinez stylistically would give Pavlik serious problems cuz he's too slow and is a classic linear puncher. But thats looking back...

I think the OP is pissed off for losing money too....

    I both agree and disagree.

I think you're right about your analysis of KP rise, he earned his way their.

I disagree about his future prospects. Although he might not be a dominant force is smw or lhw, I think he will be solid. However, I don't think can hang with the very top guys of either division. Ward, Dawson.

I too thought Pavlik would edge out Martinez :-( It gave me my 5th loss on the year :-(

Im not TOTALLY embarrassed even though most thought it was an easy pick, i mean, i kinda thought there would be a Margarito/Cotto element, with one being the far superior boxer, but that the pressure, size, power and (i figured) workrate would make the difference and hed retain his title.... I kinda figured Martinez's stamina would give and Pavlik would be more active... damn, was i wrong lol.

Just to clarify, i think he will be a solid guy, and will beat his fair shair of guys mid level, but i also dont think he will be in the top 3 of any division he goes to from here on out, when i said end of the road i just ment as a champion/elite/top of the foodchain type fighter like he was during his days on top of middle.

I firmly believe he will never reach the top of 168 or 175

    just imo

but we will see man, maybe he will pull it off.

I hope Mayweather - Martinez gets made. Martinez is so used to fighting with those hands low like that, he wont have any answer for Mayweather beating him to the punch all night.

Pavlik needs agility and speed training. The way he moves right now, fighters like Ward, Dirrell, and Dawson would take him apart. Get a strength and conditioning coach and a new trainer.

He's peaked and didn't pan out as he should have. But then again..who has?

I wish he wasn't so protected by Arum. There are times I wish he would have been training instead of moping around with alcohol etc.

the whooping he put on Jermain Taylor was a thing of beauty. I will always remember when the crowd in the casino went nuts for that.

yeah.... Pavlik will be a solid B SMW. I think its a good move for him financially. If he's lucky, he'll get a stab at one of the Super6, Bute or someone high profile....

Watching Williams/Martinez fight, the last thing you'd think would go out on Martinez would be his stamina. I honestly thought that Pavlik's 1trick pony would land too many times and drop Martinez....
