This is true, but is a trifle misleading, for example.
Bygraves had lost 4 of his last 14 fights and would win only one of his next 5.
Bacilieri had won only 2 of his last 9 fights.
McBride was 38 years old and won only 4 of his last 14 and would lose his next 2.
    Good matchmaking.

They were the ONLY top two he fought.
There are 15 to 20 , eligible fighters he missed out.

Ingo was a much better all around fighter. He may have even been the better right hand puncher. His was straighter, faster and simply brutal. However Ingo did not take a great shot and this would be his undoing. Baer was a tough S.O.B. with an iron chin and I see him wearing Ingo down and stopping him.

The signifigance of it is not to do with his later wins(every world class fighter should be fighting winning-record opponents at this stage) but at the start of his career.
The fact that he fought so few top guys has to do with how his career panned out, he was hardly going to try clean up 15 other contenders when he had a title shot earned and then the series with Floyd and early retirement ensured that he never did.

nope. Ali moved laterally and jabbed off of it, while using good footwork. Ingo just ran.

My point is Ingo got disqualified on very loose grounds,it was a bad judgement.Ali was very passive from time to time too.

I would dispute that Baer is unproven against punchers.

Did anyone out there see what Max Baer did to a skilled hall of fame right hand puncher in Max Schmeling? What makes you think Johansson can do any better than Schmeling?

So what. Ingo runs, Ali dances. Ali doesn't move away because he doesn't want to fight. that's not his style.

    Yep.

    Max Baer beat

    Pat Comiskey- Big Puncher
    Tony Galento- Big Puncher
    Max Schmeling- Big Puncher
Primo Carnera- 72 KOs out of 88 Wins. 6'6 260lb
    Arthur De Kuh- Big Puncher
Jose Santa- 34 kos out of 48 wins. 6'9 250lb.

Who did Ingemar Johansson face that was as big and powerful as these men?

Jimmy Braddock probably deserves a mention.

Frankie Campbell built up a striking knockout streak going into his fatefull fight with Baer, KO KO KO KO etc.

Lou Nova should be mentioned, although he did TKO the faded Baer twice.
