I think it's good for Ray that he never went thru with his plans not to fight Mike becuz like my man TN, Mike was slick, quick, and his punches would make Ray Leonard very sick. :tired

 

sorry bro but Tommy had too many shaky moments. you just cant cover up a shaky chin and Norris would definitely exploit it. one blazing left hook to the temple and Tommy would find himself in trouble like the beast Mugabi. If he connects on the point of the chin, we may have another Barkley moment. My man was just so fast!

vs prime Sugar Ray, Terry would win that too becuz you know how Ray likes to study his opponent with his eyes wide open? Well, TN wouldnt give him the chance to think about what move to execute and even if he did, TN with is lightning reflexes, would just move out before he could blink. But most likely, TN would just beat SRL to the punch. That would be the pattern of the fight and I see no way Ray could reverse the trend. he's got a puncher's chance but the most he could do to Terry is stun him and wake him up and you know what happens when Terry gets motivated; he starts punching holes in the opponent's head.

Micheal Nunn too, he was brilliant like Norris. Mike, a 6 ft 1 southpaw with a killer left uppercut would be a real challenge for Ray.

I'm not saying Ray got no chance but realitically, Ray would have to walk thru a blizzard of jabs just to reach Mike and Mike never stays put so you can hit him (like lalonde)

Mike would also mix in his attack like my man Norris would. I see Mike surrounding Ray from all angles and bombarding him with body shots and eventually start to debilitate him. What could Ray do against such a tall and supremely gifted fighter like Nunn? It is just a matter of time before Ray's hands drop and Mike slams home his left cross straight on target.

I dont blame Mike for uninspiring fights when you got someone like Marlon Starling as your opposition. who can ever get inspired for someone like him?

For pure boxing skills yes I think he is knocking on the top 5. If you assess all the qualities a fighter can have, Leonard had almost all of them except a great defence (his defence was decent but not great). Who would you rate as a more skilled and complete all-round boxer than Leonard? I struggle to find more than a handful.

I rank him lower overall P4P because achievements matter more than ability and skills, and he's hurt by his lack of championship reign and longevity, but that's not really his fault because he was injured and took 4-5 years off in his prime.

 

Brown was a good puncher at 147, at 154 he was above his natural weight and sure no one punch ko man.

He had that already, when he beat Hearns.

 

Tommy lacked a lot of what made Norris a great fighter and didnt develop his full potential for another three years vs Duran & Hagler.

Benitez was a nice stepping stone for him until he could develop better technique and add some badly needed muscle as well as improving on his defense. But Terry already had all of that by 1990 and was just getting better with each fight, that's why Ray couldnt compete
