Would anyone wanna see this happen, imagine Naz came back from retirement got in shape, would anyone want to see these two go back at it?

I always felt Naz has some unfinished business lurking in his legacy.

Nah, not at all. There's nothing worse than seeing two old fighters getting back into the ring, it would be purely for financial reasons. There's no way Naz would be able to make anywhere near weight anyway, it'd have to be at like MW.

It would be as dull as Duran/Leonard III.

This fight is dead son. I thought the thread title meant what if it would have happened back then?

Yeah that's what I thought at first, I wouldn't have minded seeing that although I can't see the outcome being any different.

Same here, used to annoy me a bit how most of the English media would always say things like 'Hamed can't fight any worse than that, Barrera can't fight any better, so Hamed will beat him in the rematch', wait there, how about giving the man credit for an atg featherweight win. They're the same with football, ****s, haha

Depends on Naz's approach IMO. Had he taken it seriously, like a personal thing, I see him preparing well, working on a gameplan, executing it with utter focus and winning convincingly.

He didn't show that warrior spirit though, so sayonara.

Yeah he never took the first fight seriously, it was just a warm up fight for something bigger.

Yeah his preparation wasn't good at all and he seemed to have lost interest. I can see the rematch being closer but I really can't see him beating Barrera, he's just too tough.

Nah... Being exposed as ridiculously overhyped once is enough.

Bigger? Like what? Manuel Calvo? Retirement? Prison? Eating a 126 pound body into a 210 pound body?

Naz got caught trying to cherry pick his competition. Barrera was supposedly shot going into the first Morales fight and nobody thought after that gruelling war that he would ever be the same. Naz was thinking he could get a shot and ringworn Barrera and add another name to his record without much risk. Had he been facing Barrera calibre fighters all along he wouldnt have lasted anywhere near as long as he did. Put someone else in the place of the Kevin Kelleys and Augie Sanchez' and you wouldnt have had life and death struggles you would have simply had Hamed unconcious or comfortably outpointed...

Back then, today...it's all the same..a masterclass boxing exhibition or as is said today, an ownage such as was Barrera-Hamed made a rematch unneccesary. There was nothing at all that warranted Hamed getting a rematch. He would have had to earn the right to a rematch, but for what purpose? MAB had his number as well as any fighter ever had another fighter's number. The result would only be the same.

Hamed realised he was past prime against Calvo, you could see he wasn't the same fighter then. He was getting death threats in 2001 after Sep 11th, he'd made 100million, lost his passion, happily married with a family, loved binge eating and was tired of getting in shape. Paul Ingle an ex-opponent also nearly died from a fight, that was said to be a bit of a wake up call to Naz.

Would have been a different fight in 1995, with both fighters styles back then. I'll say it again, Naz had way more potential than Morales and Barrera but didn't train hard enough after he became champ

If they rematched then, the result would have been much the same. Barrera's grim determination and all-round better boxing skills would always be too much for someone with the technical deficiencies of Naseem Hamed.

If they rematched now, the authorities who sanctioned it should be abolished and prosecuted.
