Was just watching Louis annihilate Max Baer for probably the 7th time today(lol) and couldn't help but imagine what Louis would have done to a wild slugger like George Foreman. Louis fast blazing accurate combinations would have beaten George to the punch right down the pipe. Foreman gets floored 3 times till the referee saves him from further punishment.

    Joe Louis by early knockout

I would not care to call the round opr how long Louis would take to pick Foreman apart, but I get the idea that this fight would be a bit predictable.

Styles make fights and this is a bad match for Foreman.

No. I actually like Big George. I just don't like his hardcore fans. They tend to be the worst among boxing. Big George sits comfortably in my top 10.

As great as Louis was, he was there to be hit. Fighters with half of Foreman's power floored him. I favor Louis in this matchup, but the puncher's chance in this case is a big one.

You mean the Louis that couldn't avoid an ancient Schmeling's right hand for the life of him? By "what he would have done" do you mean drive his face into Foreman's fists until George gets tired of hitting him? :huh

Yes, I agree. On his best night, Louis' faster, more accurate combinations together with his generally more skilled and fundamental approach, better defence, timing and judgement of distance would win out decisively. Foreman would get beaten to the punch and probably stopped very early.

The Baer fight was a tantalizing glimpse of a mobile Joe Louis..not the shufflin' Joe we all know of...the Baer fight was Louis at his best, and yes, he would have ko'ed big George, or for that matter, ANY heavyweight of history.

Schmeling was the opposite of Foreman ... Max was a calculating, economical , sharp puncher ... he waited for rounds till he found the proper opening opposed to throwing all caution to the wind ...

I think Foreman was light years ahead of Baer ... he had a much better jab even in 73 .. However the Louis of the M. Baer fight was exceptional because he actually used leg speed and movement instead of a methodical shuffle ... that Louis spells doom for Foreman, Liston, the Klitschko Brothers, Lewis , pretty much any of the giants in my book ... No one that I have ever seen on film threw with that speed and power ... simply devastating ...

The version of Louis that fought Schmeling wasn't the same as the one that wiped out Baer. Louis got over confident after Baer, and amazingly, abandoned that footwork he used against Max Baer.
