I know...another Mayweather Pacquiao thread, but this will likely be the last time I comment on this subject until either the press conference announcing the bout, or if the negotiations fall apart again. First off...once again, I'm a fan of both (always have to get that in ). Mayweather is supposedly asking for a 60-40 split if this bout is to take place...I already had a feeling he was going to ask for more than 50-50 if he got more PPV buys than Pacquiao Clottey. Boxing is a business, and everyone is always looking for more money...Mayweather has done it before, Pacquiao has done it before, etc. However, this bout has the potential to be the biggest, highest grossing bout in the history of the sport. The hardcore and the casual fans won't be tuning in just to see Mayweather, the same way they won't be ordering the PPV just to see Pacquiao...it's a combination of the two. The way I see it, all previous PPV numbers of either boxer are irrelevant at this point. "Mayweather did this many with X, while Pacquiao only did this many with X"...yeah, but did Mayweather do 2 + million buys with his last opponent? NO. Or the opponent before that? NO (granted he hit 2 + million against De la Hoya...but that was De la Hoya). Is there anyone else out there who he can do those numbers with aside from Pacquiao? NO. Does he have the potential to do 2/3 + million PPV buys if he gets in the ring with Pacquiao? YES. Both boxers are global superstars and are currently the face of boxing. Both P4P #1 and #2 respectively...and depending on your opinion, either boxer could be P4P #1. Both boxers produce consistently impressive PPV buys...even more impressive when only a handful of boxers in the sport have any sort of impact when it comes to PPV. If there is one bout that deserves a 50-50 split, it is this one...both will probably be taking home a career high paycheck. If you believe Mayweather deserves 60-40 split from this mega/once in a lifetime bout...post your opinion. But don't bring up figures of how many PPV buys he has throughout his career, or how many he did last time out. It's clear to everyone how much he has done...but it's also clear he won't be able to do these potential figures with anyone but Pacquiao. Also, give your opinion on why you personally believe Mayweather deserves the lion share, and because Mayweather said so isn't really good enough .
50-50 is just fair for a fight of this magnitude. 50-50 was settled before why is it not good now? anyone demandin more than 50% is pricing himself out of one of the biggest fight in the history of boxing.
The only reason people have when they say it is not good now...is because Mayweather said so, and the fact Mayweather got more PPV buys than Pacquiao last time. Lets say this bout is delayed once again, what if Pacquiao beats Mayweather in terms of PPV buys next time out? Will the same people think Pacquiao deserves 60-40?
I don't know why everyone is worked up over this. I have yet to see any credible proof that Mayweather has even asked for a 60/40 split. If he did, and he sticks to it, obviously the fight won't happen.
Not worked up, just stating opinion. But like you said, there has been no credible proof if Mayweather has asked for this...
this is not even an issue before. but i understand some of floyd's fans defending his everymove. because he will be seen as a ducker if this fight breaks-down because of his split demands which were settled before. what i find to be more amazing is some of his fans would rather not see this fight if floyd will not make 60% or at least more than pacquiao. :-(
I'd like to see a purse that will increase the chances of this fight happening. If that purse is 50/50, then yes that purse is the correct one, and that purse is the only one that us fans should be happy with. Because seriously guys, what the **** do you gain by seeing Floyd go home with the bigger split? Don't you realize a 60/40 demand (from either fighter) will heavily decrease the chances of us seeing this fight? 50/50 had been agreed once before, therefore it can be agreed once again. 50/50 is the way to go, because this route has more potential of making the fight happen.
50-50 is the only way this bout is going to happen...well thats the way it seems anyway. I'd expect both are going to be bringing in an equal amount of supporters to this bout, and then the rest will be made up of people who are a fan of neither but just want to see this bout. If Mayweather was clearly the more popular, then maybe I'd say differently. 55-45 isn't bad, for a normal bout...lets say Hatton v Pacquiao, etc (I can't actually remember what the split was for that bout), but this isn't a normal bout. The fan bases seem to be fairly equal in terms of numbers.
Wish Floyd will quit fukinaround and agree. 50/50 with Winner getting 75% of PPV & gate. Is'nt that how Ali-Frazier did back in the day. 'Er'body trying to recreate the game when the game's been played long time ago' MAKE IT HAPPEN !! :boxx:boxx:boxx:boxx:boxx:boxx:boxx:boxx:boxx:boxx
I believe he should get the lion's share because he's the more recognized fighter in America. If they want to break the PPV's up so that pacquiao gets more of the Asian marketing revenue then okay whatever. But I'm not crying for pac if mayweather is trying to take some of this revenue either....cause I remember how a certain Manny pacquiao almost scuttled a fight with Ricky Hatton because he wanted the lion's share of Ricky's UK PPV money.
