Fair point they seemed to do enough money to keep showing GAA, they just showed that for ages until the got some football on it. They could start up the same and expand slowly like Setanta the UFC is gone though but there is still Strikeforce, Dream, WEC & Bellator all great MMA shows to pick up and the Boxing. One more channel showing boxing wouldn't be bad :D

Is it showing GAA on its channels now? I had them a few months back but not now, maybe RTE or BBC said to Sky they have the rights for GAA in northern Ireland

    :good

Hopefully they just aim for a niche market this time round. Get some boxing, some MMA and some Euro or even South American football.

UFC and the real big fights are already locked up. something along the lines of the Sauerland and Top Rank contracts Setanta had seem doable. Love to see them show Inside MMA and Strikeforce since they arent shown in the UK yet.

    yep

honestly the rights to fights from the US are not that expensive. I have it on good authority they paid 25k for Marquez vs Diaz and the top rank deal for a year was less than 200k

I cannot see why Premier sports couldn't follow a set up like the Adult channels on from 5pm-3am in the week and 8pm-6am at the weekend to accommodate fights and other events

Rob, you're right. These deals aren't expensive because it's a revenue stream they normally make nothing from.

Football is a burden for any channel. Setanta bet that the football would deliver them more and more customers, but they actually made more new subscriptions from Calzaghe-Kessler in one night than from the SPL or Premier League.

Hopefully, this time they look at a viable economic model for the future.

That may sound cheap but 25k is a lot when only about 10k stay up to watch, that is £2.50 per viewer and even with repeat viewership it still would probably add up to about £1 each. Also worth considering that is roughly what ESPN pay in licensing fees for their FFN shows.

That's **** all compared to the cost of football. All channels operate at a loss initially until two things happen:

    - subscriptions go up
    - advertising rises as subscription rises

Boxing, tennis and UFC were about the only things Setanta WAS making money off of as it wound to the end.

Maybe they can get a UK tv deal with one of the promoters. Licensing fee of something like £40/£50k would be a bit modest but would be able to put on some decent shows.
