Well he doesn't have the physique of a heavy lifter nor does his frame benefit him much when it comes to benching. I would guess he can do around 300 max, unless he does incorporate lifting as part of his training. Sometimes it is really hard to tell with people of imense size and stature, because it is almost impossible for them to get a bodybuilder type of built but can still be incredibly strong.
Thats really interesting because I benched 190 kgs on monday for a few reps and the guy I trained with benched 230 kgs 5 times, perhaps I was dreaming. Dunno perhaps the gym I am it isnt real and I am imagining it. I dont act like 550 should be easy for meatheads, just that I have seen it done by a fair amount of people it gyms I have been too. I dont mind people being aggressive and rude but seriously dude chill out, I dont know where you live but if you are in the UK you can come to the gym with me and watch it done if you really like. You know that is 550lbs right? let me think, erm maybe I do although I could be really stuiped and ignorant all of a sudden and forgotten what a weight looks like... Dick
Sure bud, there are lots of guys in your gym that does 550 like it is a warmup. I am nowhere near the UK so maybe you can ask another ESB poster who is around your location to prove it. To be honest, it is not impossible that your claim is true, but I highly doubt it. If I have to bet, I would say that 5% chance you ain't BSing and if so then I apologize. Although I suspect 95% chance you one of those phonies and making things up without being able to prove thanks to being on the internet.
1). There are only 2-3 guys in the world who have bench pressed 1,000lbs. + in a legitimate competition. No one can bench anything near that amount of weight without a specialized bench shirt, as was stated earlier. In fact, there are only two people who have ever benched 700+ without a bench shirt in legitimate competition. 2). You don't have to be ripped like the Klitschkos to bench a lot of weight. In fact, many of the world's strongest benchers are fat, or guys who look like everyday people. Look up Gene Rychlak and James Henderson. 3). Valuev is at a severe disadvantage because of the length of his arms. His leverage for bench pressing is horrible. His elbows would be so far below the bench upon touching the bar to his chest. That makes it incredibly hard to develop any starting power. He could probably develop into a pretty good deadlifter with some training, though. 4). There are only around 50 or so people in the world who have ever benched 600+ lbs. in a competition without a bench shirt so to say that you know plenty of guys warming up with 550lbs. and no bench shirt is ludicrous. 5). I should add that a bench shirt is not some magical tool that you just throw on like a t-shirt and you can automatically bench a lot more weight. The best guys get about 300+ lbs. out of a bench shirt, but it is more common to see 100-200lbs. carryover. Also, benching with a bench shirt is a completely different thing than benching in your t-shirt and requires a totally different technique. It is not easy at all to properly use a bench shirt. I'm new to posting here but saw a lot of statements related to powerlifting/powerlifting style benching and I thought I would chime in.
most of the guys who are into competitive weight lifting are the short stalky types. I dont think it suits him at all being that tall. He probably has a lot more raw strength than average people but i doubt he does much weight training so i dont think its nearly as high as a lot of people are saying
Good post man. Hey who knows, maybe he lift at a gym where all the world professional powerlifters go to.
Well I think you should apologise, I dont BS, and '95% chance you one of those phonies and making things up without being able to prove thanks to being on the internet' just aint me, and why the F**k would someone come on a boxing internet forum to bost about lifting a slighly above average bench press weight? I have been lifting since I was 16, so know quite a bit about the weights game. What I mean to say is that I have trained in many different gyms, and have seen a lot of people bench those kinds of weights. I dont know why its so hard to believe. I was commenting on this article is because usually its considered v.good if someone can bench 1.5-2 times their bodyweight, and if someone that size can get in that range then he is looking at a big lift! Hell just lifting his own BW would be 350 lbs!!
Agreed but there is official bench pressing that competetitions do, and fun bench pressing that most people do which is easier without having to do the pause etc. and increases the weight you can do
440 is way above the average bench press. You thought it was only slightly above? No wonder you thought you can make up that number and hope it is a believable claim. You been lifting since 16? So when are you gonna turn 16 bud?
Very true, but many in this thread were speaking in terms of world records, etc., and the world records are done to competition standards. In addition many people claim they can bench "X" number and then you see a spotter's hands all over the bar, assisting them (sometimes a little, sometimes a lot) through the lift. Then you hear the famous "it was all you, man!" phrase, haha. I'm not saying that is happening at your gym, just pointing out that oftentimes "fun" bench pressing can be pretty skewed.
Maybe that is the training partner he is talking about. I didn't know who Andy Bolton is until I look him up, pretty damn impressive. You definitely know more about the professional weightlifting game than me bud but I know enough to spot a BSer hahahaha
More facts about SNV: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tprDsdx7JoQ&has_verified=1[/ame] NiKO invented this event. Fact. NiKO set an unbreakable world record in this event. Fact. It was recently broken (as seen in the video) by shameless steroid users from Ukraine. Fact. It's sad some men have to use PEDs like Viagra and Cialis to compete.
Yeah, I actually powerlift as a hobby (nothing nearly as impressive as Bolton) so I've learned quite a bit about it over time. That being said, I highly doubt he trains with Andy Bolton. Most of the top guys train in small, non-commercialized gyms. I agree, though, you do know enough to spot BS when you see it!
