I use to bench 385 lbs at 190 pounds, it's not out of the question. It's not hard to bench alot, you just have to have the body type for it. There were guys who were lighter than me that could bench more than me at the gym as well.
Valuev has completely the opposite of the body type of someone who bench presses a lot of weight. His arm length is going to severely limit what he can bench. Also, biceps have very little, if anything, to do with bench pressing. Some of the comments here are very misinformed (that wasn't directed at you, E30).
I know Rahman is around 500, Holy in the 90's maxed at 315. He's a bit heavier now, maybe more. Boxers don't train for benching they train for power. I remember lifting weights for college football. I maxed out at 350 at 225lbs. Later when I was boxing, my power was much more, but when I tried benching again I could only do around 300.
****, Holy in his Prime had to bench well over 400... SNV well over 450.... The truth...SNV is a Specimen...
The ancient Greeks believed taht Atlas held up the sky, and Nikolai Valuev believes that Atlas is a big vagina.
naw actually Holy in his prime maxed at 315, he trained with a bodybuilder who mentioned how much he could do. chest mass built for punching isn't the same as chest mass made for benching.
Valuev is such a natural big guy and he looks strong, he doesnt look he lifts but just his mass alone id bet he benches over 400 just on the natural. Who do you think is stronger him or Shaq(both similar height and wt) Shaq reportedley had 450 bench, actually these guys are stronger than that, its just their arms are to long to put up so much.
No that was back when Holy was fairly new to lifting. I read or heard from somewhere that he stated he is much stronger know like around 400.
I think he was even benching around 400 in his prime. When they stated Holy was benching 315 thats when he was barely making the transition from Cruiser to Heavy. Im sure he was hitting 400 when he fought Bowe,Tyson,Moorer etc etc. He is probably even stronger now.
If he practices benching (which he obviously doesn't) he'd lift at least his own body weight in time. I highly doubt he could do more than 500lbs even with intensive, long term training. He just doesn't seem to have the frame for it. With roids though, everything is off the table.
