...he proved me WRONG. I thought Carwin would knock him out in the 1st (which, to be honest, could have been the result with a different referee in there). ...he proved he has MASSIVE balls, and a serious chin. To eat so many shots from a monster hitter like Carwin, then to recover to the extent he did, was just remarkable to watch, really really astounding. ...he proved that although Shane Carwin and Brock Lesnar are the same weight, Lesnar is the superior athlete. Carwin gassed because he threw so many punches - but Brock was the one shipping those punches, and he still had the stamina and endurance to be aggressive in the 2nd round whereas Shane did not. If Carwin wants another crack at the UFC gold at some point, he has to work on his own athleticism and fitness levels, and not just train for one round. ...he proved (to me) that the result of his fight with Cain Velasquez is pretty much academic already. Velasquez couldn't stop Cheick Kongo despite being on top raining down punches on him for many minutes, so he isn't going to stop Brock Lesnar, and he isn't going to overcome that weight deficit and outwrestle him either. ...he proved that his stand-up is a clear weakness, because as I and many others suspected, he has no defence and his offence is nothing special either. Carwin was owning him standing up, but didn't have the energy or movement to avoid being taken down in the 2nd round. Can anyone think of a UFC heavyweight who has excellent stand-up, good movement, good takedown defence, good fitness levels, and good speed around the cage? I can, Junior dos Santos. Before tonight, I'd have bet big on JDS to be the man to topple Brock, and I still think he has a great chance, but Brock proved me wrong tonight and proved to have incredible punch resistance and mental strength, so I don't know how anyone can confidently pick against him from now on. MASSIVE props to Lesnar for this win :happy Also, well done to the UFC for the most exciting main card I've seen in a long time. Chris Lytle's submission on Matt Brown was fantastic, and Chris Leben was just awesome, I am very much looking forward to Leben vs Wanderlei which must surely happen soon!!
I agree with everything and I'll take it a step further. He also proved he is not a total dick. Pretty class yet still abit entertaining. Hopefully most of that WWE mentality has left his body hahaha.
Agreed. I always thought he was a complete *******, but he left the WWE bravado at home tonight, fought like an absolute warrior, and was gracious to Carwin and everyone else afterwards. I'm excited by how he has turned it around, I'm looking forward to his fight with Cain for sure.
I can't say I am looking forward to Lesnar/Cain I think its going to be a one sided beating I will be rooting for Lesnar though. I want to see Lesnar/JDS though.
I'm looking forward to seeing Lesnar in full throttle vs Cain, I don't mind if it's the beatdown I think it will be, it'll be great viewing just to see Brock handling a young, hungry challenger with a good wrestling pedigree himself. Brock vs JDS will definitely be a closer and more intriguing fight though, you're right there.
JDS is not a good match up for brock...he might be the best striker in the division...and Brock is like a fish out of water on his feet. He does NOT move like a Welterweight despite that bull**** with Rogan, and watching him reach for shots and leaving himself open is dangerous...could you imagine him doing that **** with a boxer? JDS would dominate on the stand up...he's just got to keep Brock from shooting...which is near impossible. Good post, Popkins.
I have a feeling we are never gonna see Brock on his feet more then the first 10 seconds of a round again. Its gonna be, ding ding ding Brock walking to the middle of the ring against opponent, Brock shooting in as fast as he can, up against the cage, pick up, take down, grapple the rest of the round.
Brock could probably headlock sub alot of dudes just with his arms. I wonder how much pressure a human skull can take?
Brock would be hard to handle against anyone in the world. The dimension he brings has never been seen before. It just happens to be that Carwin is a huge guy and a top notch wrestler as well. Two guys nearing 300 lbs/both agile. Big bodies like that may not give you the asthetics that you expect in a fight. Brock made a mistake in this fight of trying to stand with Carwin whilst he had zero stand up. And Carwin if not a good striker by boxing level, has got very heavy hands and accuracy. I think if Brock sticks with the gameplan of rushing in (hes got the chin to fend of a couple of shots) and take people down, it'll be hard to get him off. This is why as much as I love JDS game from the beginning, Id be hard pressed to favor him over Brock.
OK it takes 15lbs per square inch to crush a human skull, can Brock apply that much pressure? Probably right?
Did Fedor apply like 500lbs of pressure to a test dummy on "Fight Science"? Literally enough to rip someones head right off? I have to believe Lesnar could crush a mans skull!
