Anyone got a copy of this? I see it on Amazon for less than ten and I'm considering getting it...

It's impersonal I think. Just Joe Louis on how to box. I don't have it, but it's only 64 pages.

I have it (an original copy no less!). It's ghost written, but it gives some decent insight, and there's a snappy picture of Louis with a pencil behind his ear at a type-writer. Quality.

An IB and his $7 are soon parted.

    Sold, McGrain!

Is any of it written by Louis at all? That's something of a disappointment...

As you know I love reading fighter's manuals, any other you'd recommend to me? Did you read through Dempsey's?

Dempsey's is scanned in to read on the net if you look. Good stuff in there (and actually penned by Jack, AFAIK).

It's hard to say how much Louis wrote. I mean he is supposed to have written all of it - maybe he did, i'm presuming plenty when I say he didn't. It's a decent boxing manual. For the left hook some of it is a little counter-intuitive but it's very interesting to read what he has to say about it. He's huge on the left hook and big on the jab. It's a very good read, but it's a little light. It's a comic or a magazine compared to many.

Dempsey's is probably better. This one is more of a curiosity. But if you learn one thing, right? Then it's been worth it.

Yeah, it's great IB. I keep a PDF of it saved on my computer. Another one I would also really like to read is Outfighting: Or Long Range fighting by Jim Driscoll. I saw it mentioned in a cox's corner post and I'm considering picking up a copy from amazon for round 20.

I can't remember if Dempsey's "How to hit hard" was part of his how to box book, or a seperate one? Its been many years since I had this and others as a Golden Glover. I had the book attributed to Joe also but it was pretty pedistrian compated to Jacks. Of all of them the best was one latter used by Bruce Lee to learn boxing techniques written by the boxing instructer at the University of Minnesota in the latter '30's. I still have this one and its above any other I came across including those by Nat Fleisher. Dempsey's had some pretty special stuff in it too though.
