I know Allan Green lost to Miranda, but why did Kessler outright duck him?

It was because Palle was able to get a corrupt sanctioning body to give Kessler a title for fighting a washed up never-was. The money was just as good, and he was getting a free title, so they ditched Miranda and went after Sartison instead.

 

He didn't turn down the fight. He signed and got injured in camp. Stieglitz's team didn't want to postpone the fight, so Stieglitz fought Acosta instead.

 

They claimed Miranda had the flu and called the fight off.

Palle was the problem...Kessler was tired of their poor management and this begin his year long absence as he attempted to free himself of them.

 

This again? Good grief. Palle was negotiating in bad faith. He was doing a secret deal to try and get a belt for Kessler while he was saying he was agreeing to the Miranda fight. Basically he was just jerking people around and lied about it. Typical promoter stuff.

 

I thought I had read through to the end of the thread. I guess I didn't. I forget who was the first opponent he was supposed to fight? Was this when Mundine vacated? I know there was a fight that fell through and they then tried to get Miranda as a replacement but Edison was just days away from signing the Abraham rematch.

 

Sounds to me like a bunch of unsubstantiated excuses made by Kessler fanatics.

And Kessler would have a hard time fighting his normal distance fight against Miranda because he would be right in line for Miranda's MUCH longer jab and KILLER straight right hand.

If we look at people that beat Miranda, we have Pavlik, a GUNSLINGING power puncher, unafraid to walk into punches, and put pressure on Miranda and KO him, Ward, who SMOTHERED him, the same way he fought Allan Green by getting inside Miranda's long arms, and Bute, who's SLICK MOVES allowed him to get inside, again using pressure to KO him.

None of these characteristics fit Kessler. Kessler, with the exception in the fight with Froch where he had no other option but to close the distance with what looked like mostly ineffective volume punching aggression, he is a cautious mid range, upright, boxer puncher that needs room to operate.

Miranda, with his long reach and destructive right hand, is potentially a nightmare matchup, especially if Kessler attempts to fight from the outside. Kessler knew this, and he didn't sign the contract to fight in front of a BIG US AUDIENCE on HBO or SHOWTIME, and instead opted to fight some paper champion that matched up well with him.

You can come up with all the excuses in the book, but if we analyze the fighter, I think it's quite obvious what really happened.

 

THe promotional Problems from Kesslers side sound legit.. I remember his year lay off/ injuries.. Not saying he ducked him.. I believe that Kessler had no Problem fighting Miranda then or now..

If Kessler did indeed fight Miranda he'd have only been accused of fighting someone with KO losses against Pavlik and Abraham down at middle - and ducking somebody else.

I hardly imagine someone that has faced Andrade, Calzaghe, Ward, Froch etc is ''scared'' of Miranda, who has a glass chin and overrated power.
