How does the Louis of the second Schmeling fight , considered in his absolute prime, do against the version that fought a physically prime Marciano thirteen and a half years later ?

How were they different as fighters ? Discuss their skills, their stamina, their hand and leg speed, their speed, ect ...

No facet of Louis' arsenal had improved between 1938 and '51. The younger version would slaughter the older man.

He grant, I can't figure why the question? An aged disintrigatiing version is just that.

I smell an agenda behind this question. Ignore the troll.

BTW, a prime 1930's Joe Louis destroys his older self early. But the old man of the 50s could still fight well, despite what the troll above thinks.

The Louis who fought Marciano had lost his snap and power. A quick look back shows Louis only stopped 3 of his last 9 men prior to facing Marciano.

I do think this was Marciano's best filmed performance. He was a trim 184 pounds.

My best guess is Louis of the 2nd Schemling fight would have KO'd the Louis of the Marciano fight inside of four rounds.

A quick look shows Louis won 8 of his last 9 fights. Thats the more important stat. It's hard to knock everybody out when your facing Young ranked challengers with iron chins(Brions), Young flashy fighters who run away from you(agramonte) and Defensive slicksters known to go the distance with everyone(bivins). Everyone who stood in front of Louis in the 1950s, got knocked out.

This is fairly ridiculous, isn't it?

Performing anywhere near the same level, let alone on par with or higher than in one's youth is a rarity - the George Foremans are the exception, not the rule.

30's Joe knocks him clean out, faster than Rocky did.

Of course there is, he only seems to do this with Marciano's opponents.

Old Louis doesn't really have anything to trouble a younger version of himself with, except perhaps experience. He's not bigger, atleast not significantly so, and certainly not faster or more powerful or better conditioned. Against Marciano he did enjoy a size advantage and made use of it for 6 rounds. A peak Louis would get to an old Louis earlier. It could be the speed and combinations that end up being the most troubling for aging Louis to handle.

So who here besides Baby Gaga and his Princess feel the 1951 version of Louis posed a serious test for a prime Marciano in gaging Rocky's all time greatness as a heavyweight ?

Relax Baby Gaga or you'll pop some pimples rather than your cherry ? No agenda, direct questions.

So you admit he was a shell of himself. That's a start. But the 51 version still fights well. I've read many times you use THAT Louis as a standout example of Rocky fighting large heavyweights. How of the top ten heavyweights , even yours, do you feel THAT Louis defeats ? How many of the top fifteen ? Try hard to act like a grown man an d simply answer the question.

And the agenda comes in full circle of course. You can't help yourself.

Louis was the arguably the greatest HW of all time. In 1951, Louis was just a good HW. Gaging Rocky's all time greatness? I'm not laughing because of the spelling error, but what it turned out to. Gaging on Marciano's greatness, something you love to do. Couldn't fix it even with the edit. He needed to fix his insults to look more clever. Baba Gaga, I'm loving it.

It just doesn't come across as a question that needs a answer, its to obvious a situation. As Louis said of his latter fights, he could still see the openings after his jab would land but the right hand wouldn't go anymore.
