this is a joke, a few guillotines and now he is a great grappler. He stands no chance of a guillotine, he would get throttled on the ground like he did Mir, who is miles and miles better on the ground than Overeem could ever dream of.
Juice or no juice, as I can only speculate, Overeem is an impressive athlete. Overeem's stand-up is superior to Lesnar, he has some grappling skills, and his guillotine is impressive. I can't exactly write this guy off. Overeem has to prove himself at heavyweight before I can properly assess this fight. Overeem muscled Rogers, but James Thompson was muscling Rogers before being stopped. Right now I see Lesnar rag dolling him in a clinch, and pounding him out on the ground. Hopefully we'll see Overeem vs Werdum, Fedor, or Antonio Silva this year, and maybe get a glimpse of what he can bring to the division.
Overeem would get taken down anytime and would get pounded out. Theres really nothing to it. Brock Lesnar is a better wrestler than Overeem will be ever be as a striker. Its styles vs. styles, and in the history of MMA, we know who wins.
I think you guys would be surprised how easy Overeem would beat Lesnar if this fight happened... it probably never will though... I think the current version of Overeem is not comparable to the version from a couple of years ago. Try judging fighters by current ability and not by records! This guy beat some of the best K1 fighters recently, where his opponents looked like they didn't have a chance at all... he has become ridiculously strong in recent years without loosing too much speed. He has every advantage on Carwin and Carwin nearly knocked out Brock on saturday: - he is much much faster than Carwin - he is a world class striker with punches, knees and kicks with very good technique whereas Carwin is just an average technician, slow with heavy hands - his punches are harder, more accurate and versatile than Carwin's - he is bigger and stronger than Carwin as well as much more experienced - his stamina is good enough for a couple of rounds whereas Carwin's gasses badly after about 3 min if he throws some punches (see saturday) and after that his power diminishes and he is ready to take Would Overeem fight Brock on saturday the fight wouldn't last that first round... I think that besides Fedor the "new Overeem" is probably the strongest fighter out there right now. In fact, I would even favor him against Fedor... But should such fight happen in the near future and should Overeem win than the "usual suspects" would cry what a bum Fedor is, that he stepped up and lost to an average fighter, how Brock and several other UFC fighters would murder him etc. etc. I give Brock props for surviving the first round against Carwin, but there wasn't any skill involved in it - he was just helplessly lying on his back covering somewhat - it was just Carwin who gassed and couldn't finish him. If anything this fight only showed how vulnerable Brock is.
Err. I think Overeem has seen plenty of wrestling in his day.. The thing about this matchup is that this is a guy who knows the opponent is going to go for the takedown and has absolutely no business standing up with him, just as much as he has no business being on his back against the guy trying to take him down. You guys always forget, it doesn't take a d1 champ to stuff a d1 champ level takedown, it simply takes the ability to stuff and take a guys legs and wind away. As for guillotine early, no.. You aren't going to guillotine a wrestler unless he is totally out of gas and not fighting anymore. What I see, Overeem being cautious, looking for strikes, buzzing Lesnar and going in for a gnp side mount kill. knees to the body while Brock is curled up in a fetal.
I agree. Frank Mir is way better on the ground than Overeem. The guy who said Overeem had better grappling than Brock Lesnar is kidding himself. Brock probably has the best wrestling of any Heavyweight. Standup goes to Overeem easily but Lesnar has shown some serious power & Overeem's chin is suspect.
That's great, think he stands a shot in hell on the ground with Lesnar? Especially with Lesnar on top? No, no he doesn't. Brock shut Mir down completely, then proceeded to beat him senseless, and Mir is unequivocally a better grappler than Overeem
mirr's grappling is very very overratad hes done nothing in comps and has never really beat a good grappler in mma! roy nelson beat him in grapplers quest! and nelson aint no ground wiz! so yeah i think reem could get a sweep or scamble to his feet against lesnar reem is a strong man!
