Seriously. I always hear about how boxers not named Mayweather/Pacquiao/De La Hoya are paid ****, but seriously? So if you're not making millions a fight you're paid ****? Steve Molitor, a decent fighter, is not on anyones top 10 P4P or anything like that but I believe I read in the news paper he's making about 200 k a fight. So, 3-4 fights a year at the rama and thats 600-800k. Minus all deductions and he's coming home with well over 100 thousand dollars a year. How is that bad exactly? Shane Carwin earned $40,000 for his fight with Lesnar. :-(
Would be shocked if Steve Molitor is making $200,000 for his next fight. That would be extremly high. The purse bid for Bika vs Mendy, and IBF eliminator was won by Goldenboy for $30,000. Thats means there getting 15k each. Split it in half for tax, give 10% to trainer and 10% to manager and ther left with less than $5000. the reason that its bad is because his career is short. 10 years max in general. a it programmer, police officer or a teacher has a 40 year career and there not risking there life. its only at the elite level that would get over $1million for a fight and only the Mega stars that get over $5million $5million Wladamir Klitscko Vitali Klitscko David Haye Arthur Abraham Floyd Mayweather Manny Pacquiao $1million Nikolai Valuev Marco Huck Bernard Hopkins Chad Dawson Lucian Bute Carl Froch Mikkell Kessler Felix Sturm Kelly Pavlik Sergo Martinez Paul Williams Miguel Cotto Shane Mosley Juan Manuel Marquez
i agree with most but i know for a fact that bernard hopkins mikkel kessler and shane get at least a mill a fight and maybe kelly pavlik to.
If you're at least a welterweight with a paper title you can make half a million per fight. Makes 1,5 - 2 million a year. Sounds ok to me. Purse rises with everytime you win.
malignaggi got 1.2 million against hatton and like 200K vs diaz I and 400K vs diaz II, dont quote me on the diaz fights though.
Ooh, ya I know about them guys. I know they don't make anything at all and have a second job on the side. I just meant that so many people act like guys at the world level aren't making anythin.
mate arent all of dana whites fighters contracted to make 1 hundred thousand per fight thats what i saw on ultimate fighter
Cops aren't risking their lives? I think their lives are on the line moreso than a boxer. Good point overall though. There is a relatively small amount of fighters are getting a lot of money in this sport. There are also too many fighters who are having too much of their money taken by managers and promoters, and too many who don't handle their money correctly.
It can be the luck of the draw. Its not uncommon for a good fighter to be brought in as an opponent for a great fighter and make a pretty penny. But if you have decent management, even an inexperienced fighter can pull several thousand for a fight. A guy from my old gym only had about 4 fights and was brought in as an early opponent for Chazz Witherspoon and they gave him $3000. Guess thats not too bad for someone unemployed with no education for a half hour's work. If you can get 2 fights a month at that rate, you can actually make a modest living. You wont be driving any bentleys but you might be able to pull in as much as someone working a 9-5. For instance, Kabary Saleem was brought to UK to fight Calzaghe and made 250k for it. Here's a guy that is unknown to the general public with no following and he made a quarter million. All depends on your management, the negotiating factors, who the opponent is, the promoters etc etc.
