Well considering Ireland has a combined population of 5m and the UK is 70m then I would say that it is a fair assumption that there will be a deeper pool of talent in the UK. Of course they are gonna say they would be happy to fight for it. Boxing these days is about money. They aren't gonna be stupid enough to say "Nope, i'm not fighting for that title as i don't consider myself Irish" are they ? That would be ridiculous. I know of a fighter who is being constantly reffered to as a fan of a particular football team where he lives and is starting to get a bit of a following with the fans..... Even though he doesn't really support them (or a team thats local infact) but he doesn't correct people because he's building a bit of a fan base there and we all now since the Hatton days - fan bases talk a lot in this sport Fair enough. I don't have a problem with that if they are genuinely Irish. Gavin, Murray and the Walsh's all fought for England as AM's so in my opinion should be classed as English and not Irish. Irish roots and heritage maybe but they shouldn't be fighting or ranked for your title

I've spoken to the man and once he hears my accent its usually the first thing he brings up. Once again I think you are misunderstanding the list - its a list of guys that qualify for an Irish title as opposed to Irish fighters. Matt Macklin fought for an English ABA but considers himself primarily Irish - so fighting for an ABA isnt a solid argument. The same thing could be said about guys from Northern Ireland that fight for the British title - do you think all of them consider themselves even slightly British.

As Slappy explained the Irish rankings are based on the stated specific criteria i.e. their qualification for an Irish Title. The ABA scenario is fine, but if you consider an equivalent football scenario. Ryan Giggs played for England Schoolboys but played for Wales. If a boxer wants to fight for a British or Irish Title and they qualify for either or both, then it is their perogative, no one elses.
I include Northen Irish which counts as part of Britain. I accept that you can also have Northern Irish fighters on your irish list. I have no problem with that. Its when you add guys whos Parents were Irish your pushing the boat. Next time i do the British list I will make sure I add Mikkell Kessler. I think a fair way yo do the list is you can have Irish, Northen Irish, Irish parents, Grandparents, a guy whos been to O'Riellys bar a few times but they have to of least had a fight in Ireland. That means you can have Tyson Fury btw. also it just highlights how **** irish boxing is right now. theres only two boxers there i would rank at the top of an all irish & british rankings.......and they can also be classed as british.
John O'Donnell was born in Galway and didnt he fight in Mayo? Chris O'Brien fought in the Irish ABA's when he was growing up in Dublin and is actively looking for a fight in Ireland and an Irish title fight - as is Maher and Farrell. You can keep the Walsh brothers - I'd be more than happy if none of them had Irish blood. Paulie Hyland and Andy Murray both won an Irish title and went on to win an EU title. Like I said there are plenty of fighters in the British rankings that dont consider themselves at all British.

fair enough but he was commonwealth champion and scheduled to fight for the british title O'Brien, Farrell and Maher all born in England and have never had a professional fight in ireland. Liam Walsh is a top prospect. Tyson Fury, BJ Saunders and the Smith brothers all have Irish blood i think. EU title is meaningless its like the WBU equivalent of the EBU European title. Which fighters in the british rankings don't see themselves as British........if they have fought for a British title they see themselves as British.
The British title is for UK fighters. I will be politically correct and call it UK from now on. On the brink.......but they haven't done it. not one of them is ranked in the top 3 by the EBU so there at least a year away.
not true! simply not true - as Dan said above, its a business, if winning a British title bring more dough they will go for it. If I said "if they have fought for an Irish title they see themselves as Irish" would you agree with that?
Paul hyland and andy murray are both ranked 3 by the ebu . eddie hyland was meant to fight kirakosian in france but it fell through and the fight is taking place in the near future . so i dont no where you get your facts from because your talkin bollox as usual
