U.S taxes would be about 35%. I don't know where you got that number for Golden Boy from, but that seems very high if they're getting 13%

 

Pacquiao doesn't pay US taxes. That's why he was training in the Philippines for a big chunk leading up to the Cotto fight, so he didn't trigger US residency and become eligible to pay US income taxes.

 

Anyway, one name I haven't seen mentioned yet is Koki Kameda. I'd be surprised if he doesn't make over a million per fight.

 

Im pretty sure there are some taxes though. He was getting paid by a US company, I thought all purses were subject to tax period.... but im not accountant:hey

 

You might be right about purses. He probably is taxed on his fight income, but not on the other income. I don't know anything about the tax treaty between the US and the Philippines though.

 

I'm not a tax accountant, but I'm almost positive that Pacquiao does pay taxes to the U.S goverment. It may be a different rate than a U.S citizen, but I don't believe The U.S goverment would allow people to make millions U.S dollars, generated while working in the U.S, without taxing them. If they allowed that to happen, a lot of rich people would move out of the country.

Is it just a select few that make a lot of money in Japan. I don't know how popular boxing is over there. I don't think its as big a K-1 and i'm not sure if it was bigger than mma (when mma was at its peak over there).

But if boxing is big over there I could see how the popular boxers could make millions of dollars.

On another note, I though Pac-man and Floyd said they would only fight in Nevada, Texas or some other state because they don't get taxed on their income. Do those states offer some tax incentive to fight there?

 

this is the sad part...the not so popular guys who bring in what they can get heavily taxed and they take all the risks!

No, but he's the most famous boxer, and they get really into their stars there. Boxing as a sport isn't really popular at all (at least not compared to K1 or Pride), but championship boxers who are Japanese are pretty popular and sell out big arenas regularly.
