I kid you not. I read in the Toronto Sun a while ago that he was making 200,000 for his next fight.

Even the very few guys making over 1M per fight, they have to pay their trainers, their promoters, managers, sparring partners, health insurance (in some backwards countries), nutritionists, cutmen, sanctioning fees, taxes... what are you left with?
Some of these guys live comfortable lives but they also have to think about retirement. They might have a very long career with a lengthy reign and numerous title fights or they might have a couple of good showings until their career ends in a flash. How many big money fights did Jermain Taylor have? or Israel Vasquez? Carl Froch? Sergo Martinez?
Now guys like Taylor and Vasquez, who are just 30, have to live the rest of their lives on that.

The overwhelming majority of fighters have to have a day job and train in their spare time. That is just the way it is. If your a **** hot prospect you might get signed early and have your expenses paid for. In the case of Molitor he has a good hometown following and that can get you some good cash.

I think you're running pretty short on that second list. Definitely missing guys like Mundine, Green, Koki Kameda, Naito and Khan. Others who have definitely had $1M+ paydays recently include Adamek, Arreola, Bute, Malignaggi, Povetkin, Jones, Wright, Tarver, Hasegawa, Clottey, Margarito and Berto (signed anyway).

And to whoever said Huck has never made $1M, I wouldn't bet against it. Dude sells 10,000 seats live. That alone nets you some pretty big paydays.

Same goes for the Molitor figure. He sells a lot of seats in Rama.

I wouldn't doubt it. Haye and Abraham probably make a killing fighting at home (England and Germany).

No way does Haye make $5Million at home. He's a good draw but he isn't Hatton.

Haye made a fortune from PPV from the Valuev fight. The press over here were talking about £5 million pounds. Double that at least for a Klitschko fight. Of course, that's subject to all the other costs and deductions, but he's still earning more than 99% of other fighters. Abraham sells out stadiums in Germany and his fights are watched by millions.

Don't forget the overheads these guys have as well. I bet the percentage that the manager, trainer, cornermen, PR, etc all add up to a hefty cut of purse money (not forgetting taxes of course). I wouldn't be surprised if even the elite boxers see only 30-50% of purse money, and probably as little as 0% with certain promoters involved. . .

On that note, I remember reading that New Zealand's highest paid 'sportsman' is Tiger Woods' caddy.

I read an article in Newsweek some years ago that said that 10% of the boxers get 85% of the money that boxing generates per year. Making boxing a risk in the range of looking to hit the lotto to pay your bills. Sad thing is MMA fighters are paid even worst then that. Hell their top fighters are lucky to get 500k even though MMA generates numbers close to that of boxing.
