It is true, show me your proof that it's not true and remember, to be considered British the fighters have got to have been born in Britain or at the very least have two British parents which is exactly how the original list was compiled for each countries champions.

Ireland have had 17 out of a population of 5 million.
Britain's population is 14 times bigger, so come on list your champions...

First of all it is you who is making the claim so the burden of proof is upon you.

Furthermore who are these 17 world champs, and where were they born?

And lastly you can't just state that your population is 5 million. A few people have been and gone since Ireland crowned her first world champ. Just a few.

you really are a mixed up little chap arent you.

    a. "If they have Irish parents but have never had a fight in Ireland.....im sorry but there not an Irish boxer." - you mean "in your opinion", then again it not up to you is it - its up to the boxer really isnt it. I wouldnt be so obnoxious as to make assumptions with regards other peoples nationality and or citizenship.

    b. "you started a thread about Irish boxing in a british boxing forum" - is it a forum for solely British people or is it about the British boxing scene. Most of the fighters on the list will at one stage fight in the UK - kind of makes it relivant.

    c. "but surley you should of had to have boxed in Ireland to be eligable" - eh, no.

    d. "Frankie Gavin, the Walsh brothers are all licensed boxers with the British Boxing Board of Control, they are not licensed by the Irish equivalent so how can they be eligable to box for the Irish title???? title???? because some bloke in Ireland phoned them and asked them!!" - eh, no its because they qualify for an Irish passport - see Takaloo, Shinny Bayaar and Ojose Olusegun!

Neil Sinclair won the British title whilst holding an Irish licence not a British one.

You obviously have serious issues about Irish people, maybe your Ma was pumped by some Irish roadworker, I dont know, but you need to calm down. The criteria for the list has been explained time and time again - its the same criteria that qualifies someone for the British title.

why restrict the count to "this century" boxing has been going across three centuries now and we are only 10 years into this kind - kind of skews the results by looking at such a short timeframe.

Macklin actually lives in LA now and as we speak is in Ireland. :good

Population of Ireland is 6,197,100 plus Northern Ireland 1,775,000 so

    Ireland 7,972,000
Britain 61,500,000 (this includes Matthew Macklin and Frankie Gavin btw)

So Britain had a population that is 7.71 times bigger than Ireland and NI.

    according to boxrec

Ireland have had 14 World Champions
Britains have had 70 World Champions.

so we are ahead of you if you base it on population capatita, whether its in history or in the last 10 years

I am a gobshite fair enough but if theirs one person on this forum who would say the same things right to your face its me. Thats not a threat in any way shape or form (unlike last time) however at least i can admit i'm a gobshite at times. Can you admit that you're an arrogant pretentious wanker ??

    A bold statement isn't it ?

NO NOT AT ALL. You made the thread on the British Forum then acted the **** and started calling people 'Paddy bashers' - You provoked the reaction you have gotten and thats why your thread has turned into a mserable failure

I support fighters I like regardless of there heritage/nationalities and have said so on numerous occasions. If two fighters I like/don't like are on then obviously i'd support the British guy but if a Brit was fighting somebody I liked then I wouldn't be supporting the Brit because of their nationality

Thats your opinion, you know full well what I think of you so neither of will lose any sleep over it eh ? :good

Correction Britain's population is 62 million
    [ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Kingdom[/ame]

Ireland's population is 6.1 million North and South
    [ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ireland[/ame]

So Britain is 10 times the size of Ireland not 14, my mistake.

So Ireland has had 17 world champions. These 70 champions, were they all born in Britain? Or have British parents?:huh

    a) it is up to the boxer and they wanna be irish, they should at least box in ireland before they win the Irish title. my parents were not born in england but i am english. i was born here. i am proud of my roots but i am english and nobody can tell me any different. You are from the country where you feel your from. If Macklin, Lindsay and others don't feel like there from the UK, they can go **** themselves as i dont want them holding the title. But i have never read an interview where any of them say that, just that they are proud to be from Ireland or from where there are living in the UK. If one of them came out and said they were only fighting for the title for money, the board would rightgully strip them.

    b) more of the fighters on the list fight in the UK than in Ireland thats what makes it a crap list.

    c) fair enough but thats a bull**** rule. i dont think you would find a british title fight involving a boxer than had never had a fight in the UK. if it was going to happen i would personally contact the board and protest

    d) all 3 of those fighters are british citizens, have british passports otherwise they wouldnt be allowed to fight for the british title.

Does Gavin have an Irish passport? do the Walsh brothers. fair enough you can rank them if they have one, but not if they qualify for one.

Please provide a source on Neil Sinclair boxing for the british title without a BBBofC license because without one it would be ilegal to box in this country.

why get personal. have i said anything personal. not its been strictly a conversation about sports. i have no problem with irish people, just irish people in this forum. your as bad as the scousers.

I didnt "started calling people 'Paddy bashers'" - however my spidey senses told me that you and RP would turn up and at least one would use the term "Plastic Paddy" - I wasnt far wrong.

Yes it might have been a bold statement to say you havent a clue about the majority of Irish boxers - but its something I stand by. If you did you would have said something like "Why is Carl Frampton so low" instead of what you did say.

Now unless you actually have something to say about the list I wont be replying to your ignorant inane bs anymore - so thank you and good night!

the population you have taken from wikepedia is only for southern ireland.

the 70 world champions were all British Citizens and Ireland has only has 14 world champions according to boxrec.

in terms of the actual rankings.

Kenna should be ahead of Belshaw
O'Donnell has yet to have a fight at LWW

    a. answered like a true ******ed bigotted moron - go read a book mate! maybe travel a little while you are at it.

    b. the list is based on the eligibility criteria that BOTH the BUI and the BBBoC use - not much I can do about that.

    c. good luck with any potential protests! Let me ask you, how did you feel when Tony Oakey fought for the British title outside of the UK - such a disgrace wasnt it! :nut

    d. no they dont! you obviously havent read the BBBoC rules. Come back to me when you have.

    e. The rules is "if they qualify for a passport" not if they hold one. Write a letter to the BUI and if they change their rules I will change my criteria! :good

    f. Sinclair told me in person in the Kevin O'Hara dressing room before the Sykes fight - and still hold an Irish fighters and trainers licence.

O'Donnell was at LWW in Widnes and said his future is at LWW.

Kenna is finished in my eyes, if Belshaw gets his focus back he still has something to offer.

Ireland has had 17 world champions, not 14.

The 70 champions boxrec list is a joke, you've got Michael Bent who was born in the UK to Jamaican parents, moved to the US where he boxed in the ams and pros, won his world title there but he's listed as British! Then you have Tom McCormack who was born in Dundalk, Ireland who moved to the UK and he's British too it seems! So you can have it all ways!

I'll have to find the website where the list was posted of our 17 world champions (who all have Irish blood (no Jamaicans, Italians, Pakistani's, etc) and were all born in Ireland but Britain would have to have 10 times more champions than Ireland to be more sucessful.
