The winner of the super 6 would of trumped Calzaghe's career in little over 2 years?

    Another day, another stupid thread about Calzaghe.

    Let's see these fighters dominate their division for a decade before making any statements. Personally I don't really think these guys are a class above the likes of Reid, Sheika, Woodhall, Mitchell and Mkertchian in the previous generation - the only difference is that due to Lacy and Calzaghe, the division is just more popular and the fighters are known.

    Ward has a chance, if he keeps his nose clean, to go on and forge a really good career. But what we know from boxing history is that very few fighters dominate a division for longer than a few years. That's why Hopkins, Monzon, Hagler and Calzaghe are all rated so high - they beat whoever was in their division and generally did it quite easily.

    There is a point here - just cos a group of fighters have a documentary series following them - don't make them ATGs.

    If Ward beats kessler,green,dirrel,kessler,AA then Bute, he will have a good resume for his age but remeber u can remove the 2 kesslers straigth away and green is noo better than the majority of "bums" on calzaghes resume, dirrell was beaten by froch (contreversial or not it was close). So the 2 stand out names would be AA ( who lost to Dirrell) and finally Bute. For his age this is a massive acomplishment but it does not place him above calzaghe imo. The only way for any of these to move above calzaghe are to either beat him (unlikely since he reitred) or to just stay champion a while. If Ward wins s6 then bute and maintains his status for a few years THEN it would be hard to argue against it:)

    P.S even if he came out of retirement and lost it wouldnt count because this board doesnt accept wins over old and past it people, So longetivity is the only way.

    Even without fighting Bute, the winner of the Super 6 can say they have faced better opposition than Calzaghe.

    Surely this is obvious?

    Kessler = Kessler
    Green = Anyone from Calzaghes resume almost
    Froch = Calzaghes version of Reid
    Dirrell = The past it eubanks
    Ward = Hopkins
    AA = Lacy (Massive puncher who loses as soon as he met someone slick and skilled)

    Ok they not ideal fits but they close enough imo. You CANNOT get the respect without longtivity. So many fighters have elite skills yet due to off/bad days they aquire loses. Calzaghe did not fight top fighters his whole career but he never let the bad/off days make him lose. Beat S6 and then Bute and be champion for a few years THEN you can be classed as better.

    I'd say they would be on the same level.

    Calzaghe's resume is not very good. Old Eubank, old B-Hop, old RJJ, overhyped Lacy and a good Kessler are his best wins.

    If Ward wins, which I suspect he will, and beats Bute, he would have become the undisputed SMW champ in 2 or three years. I'd say thatthis would put him on the same level as Calzaghe.

    All Ward has to do to surpass Calzaghe then would be to beat a good, prime fighter at LHW

    Eubank was 31 (not gonna argue that he wasn't past his prime but old? come on).

    The names on Joe's record are not as bad as they get made out to be.

    Reid, Brewer, Eubank, Lacy, Mitchell, Woodhall, Sheikh. They were all decent fighters. Don't kid yourself that any of these prime wouldn't have had a decent go with any of the guys from the super six.

    I will happily say that Ward beats all of them convincingly. Once Ward has finished he will potentially have Miranda, Kessler, Green, Dirrell (probably, he will be Wards biggest challenge), and Abraham, and then he takes on Bute. This is a better resume at SMW than Calzaghe.

    All Ward then has to do is fight a good, prime titleholder at LHW and he will have surpassed Calzaghe.

    I hate this resume crap , The real question is how would have the Super 6 winner have done against Calzaghe ? I think we all know the answer

    The issue with Calzaghe's legacy is the 'could've but didn't' aspect of his career. He could have fought more notable opposition that was around and within reach, at the time, but he did not.

    If a Boxer has a modest résumé, in terms of live talent, then it helps even less when part of your legacy includes a number of fantasy fights with other Boxers that existed at the time.

    If whoever wins the Super Six, then goes on to beat Bute, they will have the more solid level of conquered opponents on their record because they have taken the fights against the top guys, at the time. Following this, they should all have time enough to answer the question of longevity.

    In my opinion, however, longevity and the '0' (favourable factors of Calzaghe's record), are not the most important aspects of a legacy and are somewhat diminished, unless they have been combined with a career of facing top-flight opposition.

    -If bradley moves up and has a super 6 with cintron,berto,clottey etc he would achieve more than mayweather!! take a deep breath and think before you post!!
