I haven't posted this before so I thought I would give you a rundown of the conversation I had with Calzaghe in May when I was at the Mayweather v Mosley fight. Firstly, I'm not a fan and purposefully walked past him at the weigh in. I hate hypocrisy on any level and wouldn't approach him because he was famous. After the weigh in my girlfriend and I went to Zuri (A bar at the MGM Grand) for a drink and Calzaghe was there. My girlfriend wanted a picture so I told her to go over and ask but not to mention me. He was standing at the bar with one other guy and was going relatively unnoticed. He asked her where she was from and who she was with, repeatedly, and eventually she had to point me out. OVER HE CAME ON A COMEBACK "I'm not coming back. I would have to be crazy! Against who? Popkins - He's 45 man - No point!" I MENTION CHAD DAWSON "No money in Dawson! No Money in Dawson! Don't get me wrong the guy is a ****in great fighter but he's not a draw." HE BRINGS UP HATTON "Now look at Ricky Hatton, (he then whispers in my ear) he's not a great fighter BUT he had Mayweather and Pacquaio. Okay, he got knocked out but he made millions! I wish I had been a ****in welterweight!" LEADS HIM TO FRANK WARREN "Warren wanted me to fight Clinton Woods when I wanted Lacy" I tell him I was at that fight and he's clearly delighted. I didn't tell him I was supporting Lacy. Not in my best interest - **** the hypocrisy rule for five. "He wanted me to fight Carl Froch when I wanted Kessler. Warren is a dickhead, he ****ed about with my career!" MOSLEY VS. MAYWEATHER He asks me what I think and I tell him Floyd by decision 118-110. Hey I wasn't far way!:good "I think Mosley is too strong but wouldn't right off Mayweather. It's going to be interesting seeing him in against a strong welterweight!" ON A PHOTO "No problem mate" I ask if I can put a fist on his chin and stress that it's for fun. He gives me a mock body blow and says he's retired and that I shouldn't worry. You see I do care for you Calzaghe fans. The irony in meeting a guy I had repeatedly slated since 1997 was extreme but it was an interesting insight into a champion's mind. Hope it makes for good reading and it's not intended to **** anyone off. Speaking of **** - Calzaghe was pretty drunk and stayed at that bar until the early hours of Saturday morning. I passed him on the way to the MGM Buffet for breakfast. Hope you enjoyed this.
i giv this 2 hours before you get some people asking for your autograph after meeting their god and some people come in frothing at the mouth and show how his reluctance to even let u mock hit him shows he even ducked you!!. Seriosly tho nice story and serves to remind us all i think that at the end of the day these are just normal people like you and me
