**** me solid this is a tough one. And if the 90's triumph the final is going to be equally difficult Heavy=Muhammed Ali v Mike Tyson ......although i feel this is a bad styles matchup for Ali, i have to take him. He beats the odds. Top 5 chin of all time is key against a Tyson. Passion and heroics is key against a Tyson. He may go down on the way. Ali UD Light Heavy= Bob Foster v Michael Spinks......Spinks UD. If Foster doesnt catch him, Spinks is a much better boxer and his awkward style and ample power may lead to him winning by KO. But i'll go with a UD Middleweight= Carlos Monzon v Marvin Hagler......Hagler wide UD. Hagler is the better boxer. With Monzon being so tall i can see Hagler going for him like he did Hearns, and Monzon isnt going to be able to back him up. Honestly, i see Hagler KOing him, but Monzon was never KOed sio ill go with UD Welterweight= Ray Leonard (70s) v Ray Leonard (80s) .......80's Leonard the more experienced clearly takes this. Leonard (80s) UD Lightweight= Roberto Duran v Chavez....as well as not having a physical advantage, Chavez does not have the right style at all to fight Duran with. Duran UD Featherweight= Eder Joffre v Salvador Sanchez.....Sanchez the bigger, stronger guy with an iron chin is an immovable object. Much more proven than given credit for. Sanchez SD Bantamweight= Rueben Olivares v Jeff Chandler....early 70s Olivares was devastating and he fought everybody. Olivares KO Flyweight= Miguel Canto v Sot Chitalda...dont know about these guys
Heavy=Muhammed Ali v Mike Tyson A 70s Ali was not at his best for tackling Mike Tyson IMO, he was not able to sustain his movement for the whole fight and would eventually let Mike Tyson get in and land, although he did have enough to take a solid lead and is tough enough to handle Tyson's success and come back with his own in the trading department IMO. Ali UD. Light Heavy= Bob Foster v Michael Spinks Spinks is definitly more awkward and the better boxer, I although think he takes a better punch by a long shot. By that I think Foster has sucess early as he piles up points behind that long jab but Spinks would start to come back into it and probably take him out with a straight right. Spinks KO. Middleweight= Carlos Monzon v Marvin Hagler Dead level IMO. I think Hagler is good at taking away peoples jabs to establish his own and his counterpunching but Monzon has a brilliant jab and is very clever. I could see him ad******g to it to land his straight right. I think I'll give Hagler the edge today on a very close decision as he takes Monzon's jab piles up a big lead with hard combos before giving Monzon time to adjust to his jab, and that is the difference in a razor thin close fight. Hagler SD. Welterweight= Wilfred Benitez v Ray Leonard I will put Benitez in the 70s as he was for my money the best Welterweight in the 70s if you count his work at LWW, and Napoles was coming to his end and Leonard just started so Benitez prime is dead in the middle of the 70s so I choose him, rasther than have a Leonard vs Leonard match up or an old Napoles. I think Benitez would get more sucess when he was younger as he was slightly more active but again Leonard wins a decision. Lightweight= Roberto Duran vJulio Cesear Chavez Duran is too much for him IMO. Whatever JCC could do Duran would come back at him but better. Duran UD. Featherweight= Ernesto Marcel v Salvador Sanchez I like Marcel here. Maybe I'm just high on him at the moment but I really think he has a good chance. His mobility could give Sanchez some problems as he lands straight rights down the pipe and gives lots of feints - like Cowdell did. This ties up Sanchez's offence abit and lets Marcel take over. I think as Sanchez adjusts Marcel himself is able to adjust and confuse his opponent even more as he might go into mid range and start to counter. But do not get me wrong it is very close, and Sanchez should be favoured, I just like Marcel to upset him. Bantamweight= Rueben Olivares v Jeff Chandler Dont know much about Chandler, but I know Olivares is greater and I would think the better fighter. Flyweight= Miguel Canto v Jung-Koo Chang As Flea said Chang would be a better choice. I like him to beat Canto with his swarming attack, not really letting Canto get into a rythm and have the ability to make Chang miss, as a swarming attack is hell for a defensive genius. I do think when Chang goes into his mid-range mode Canto has more sucess with this more measured approach and can win afew rounds but overrall Chang wins a 10-5 sorta decision. 4-4 A draw.
Muhammad Ali Bob Foster Marvin Hagler Ray Leonard Roberto Duran Salvador Sanchez Rueben Olivares Jung Koo Chang

Heavy=Muhammed Ali v Mike Tyson – 4-1 Light Heavy= Bob Foster v Michael Spinks – 2-3 Middleweight= Carlos Monzon v Marvin Hagler – 0-5 Welterweight= Ray Leonard (70s) v Ray Leonard (80s) – 0-4 Lightweight= Roberto Duran v Chavez – 5-0 Featherweight= Eder Joffre/Ernesto Marcel v Salvador Sanchez – 1-4 Bantamweight= Rueben Olivares v Jeff Chandler – 5-0 Flyweight= Miguel Canto v Sot Chitalda/Jung Koo Chang – 1-3 Current Score – 70s 3 80s 5 Wow, a bit of an upset on the cards for mine. Carlos Monzon has been dominated by Hagler so far, I thought it would be a lot closer. And Jung Koo Chang is the fighter who has done the best work, with his upset of Miguel Canto. The 70s need someone to turn things around, I don’t see who will though. Miguel Canto seems the best shot. Not too long to go.
80s Leonard is the only victory I give them Sanchez may squeeze a win but Im giving Joffre the benefit of the doubt. Foster for me has too much speed and power for Spinks. Bob matches size with Mike and nullifies the advantages Mike enjoyed as a LHW. Better jab and better right hand. Monzon is a class above any MIDDLEweight MMH crossed paths with. Monzon had great size, strength, durability, stamina and was extremely rugged. If Marvin starts slow as he was prone to do, I can see Carlos dictating the pace and range with his jab. Haglers best chance is to use his superior speed and jump on Monzon early and fight at close range. Even if Hagler can start this way I see Monzons extra size and his ruggedness allowing him to finish over the top of Hagler in a scenario resembling Valdez II
Good post. I've only one minor gripe. Leonard only came into prominence in 1979. The last year of the 70's. So I do n't think that he can be classed as the best in that particular decade. Obviously Ray was the best welter of the 80's.

Ali Spinks Monzon - A little more consistent, and i think Hagler might throw a few rounds away by trying to show he has better boxing skills, like he did early on against Leonard. 70s Leonard - I just think that youth and determination will beat experience when all things are largely even. Duran Joffre Canto. This one will be called as soon as i get a chance.
