I got to go with Bruno here............ Bruno at 6' 4" tall and a solid 222 pounds in his youth, with a world class jab and a glass-jaw, still has the metal to TKO Jerry Quarry in a time zone........ Bruno stops Quarry on cuts by round 7........ BRUNO! MR.BILL:good
I like Jerry here he proved he could handle big guys who could punch Foster and Lyle ,and both of those would be a handful for Bruno imo.
I see where you are comin' from but, the pre-'89 Bruno who boxed more so than slugged had a great left jab and right hand power. Remember, Bruno was killing Bones Smith on points for "9" rds before getting careless and losing focus by way of getting KO'd in round 10........ Aside from that loss to the HULKING and POWERFUL Bones Smith in 1983 or 1984, Bruno was looking very good as a prospect / contender........... He (Bruno) did ICE Gerrie Coetzee in "1" round in '86........ I say small Jerry Quarry hangs tuff, but gets stopped by Bruno.......:thumbsup MR.BILL
Quarry was a tough guy and a fan favorite. He fought the likes of Machen, Patterson x2, Ellis, Frazier x2, Ali x2, Lyle, Shavers, and Norton among others. He was able to beat a past prime Patterson once in a close fight that could have went either way. They also fought to a draw. He also beat Lyle (W12) and Shavers (TKO1). He was clearly beat by Machen, Ali x2, Frazier x2, Norton, and Chuvalo. The wins over Mac Foster and Buster Mathis are worth mentioning as well. Still, I don't understand all the Quarry love around here.
Bruno would be tailor made for Quarry. It's a real shame that their eras didn't overlap so that they could have fought...it would have been a golden fight for Quarry. Jerry would have stopped him in 6 or 7 rounds and would have looked great doing so.
Respectfully, but NO WAY MR BILL. There was nothing that special about Bruno...Quarry would have feasted on him after the first 3 rounds. The fight wouldn't have gone 8 rounds.
Some of us don't understand the hate you have for Quarry. By reading your posts on Quarry threads, one would think that you would pick Jean Pierre Coopman over Quarry. Back to the thread topic. Quarry breaks Bruno the same way he did Mac Foster and stops him in the mid rounds.
If Bruno can turn that paper face into Pizza inside 5 rounds he wins easily. After that the fan friendly but highly over rated Quarry wins it. Bruno's jab was way harder and better than either Lyle or Foster's.
In 66 fights, Quarry was cut 8 or 9 times, this includes the beatings at the end if his career. Posters on this site seem to think Quarry started bleeding while getting his gloves laced up in every fight. That is not the case.
i think bruno would smash him....too much of a size difference. quarry is what, about 200 lbs,and bruno is 230 lbs...bruno also had a 3 inch in height, and a whooping 10 inch reach advantage.
