Cotto defeated Mosley? Plus, I maintain that Shane was pretty horrible on the night and either over-trained or the lay off played a huge factor. Not trying to take anything away from Floyd, but that's what I saw...just as I saw Oscar not turn up when he fought Pacquiao.
I'll ask you again, what was wrong with Marco in 2003? What was wrong with Marquez in 2007? Pacquiao got the nod in a decision that could have gone either way, much like Floyd did against Castillo. Hatton was coming off the best performance of his career since Zoo, and Cotto showed the same vulnerabilities that he had done before and during his fight with Antonio Margarito. Manny has the best win column in Boxing today.
Cotto-Mosley could have gone either way. Cotto had just got beaten half to death by Marg who Mosley dominated and ko'd. Cotto looked pretty bad against Clottey, who I thought beat Cotto. Didn't think he looked too good against Foreman either
Thought he looked good against Manny until the Filipino started getting to him. For some strange reason people seem to remember Cotto being this infallible killer before the Margarito fight and now just claim he was ruined. It's almost as if he wasn't hurt numerous times against Judah, and wasn't almost knocked out multiple times at 140lbs. Great win for Pacquiao, Cotto came to fight, was throwing good, effective combination's, he was just beaten by a better man on the night.
Well MAB is his best win but as you ask MAB had a bad training camp because of forrest fires, call it an excuse if you want. JMM beat Pac in everyone's eyes bar Pac nutthuggers. Mayweather swept the first 5 against JLC and took a few other rounds. It was close but the difference was FMJ rematched him, Pac went to fight David Diaz instead who was coming off a gift from a shot Morales of all people. I bet Roach was thinking JMM was old before they signed the rematch too :yep WTH you talking about Malignaggi being Hatton's best performance after Tyszu? Yes it was dominant but Malignaggi was coming off 2 back to back gift robbery decision against gatekeeper opposition. He still even hurt Hatton early if I remember rightly
Cotto just came off a brutal fight with Margo and a grueling brawl with Clottey. So, no it wasn't the same Cotto that beat Shane.
Name a better performance from Hatton post Zoo than his domination over Paulie...who would go on to beat Juan Diaz, twice (in reality). I had Floyd losing to Castillo 7-5. He rematched him. Fair enough. Pacquiao redeemed himself my moving up divisions and taking on much stronger men than himself...and destroying the majority of them with relative ease. ...That Pacquao is a baddd man.
Yes Cotto did look decent against Pac early on when he boxed, but he folded like a beach chair once hurt. I always picked Pacquaio to dominate but Cotto at his best would have fought back more imo. Your right about Cotto being hurt many times in other bouts too, but doesn't that add to the likelyhood of him being shopworn, going on ***** street that often ruins a fighter.
Perhaps not, but considering the circumstances, it still stands as a very good victory for Manny Pacquiao...who nobody could ever imagine would be a Welterweight three years ago.
Pacquiao had no business fighting at that weight in the first place...and man handling Cotto like he did. I could hardly believe my eyes, in truth.
Post-Tyszu - easy Mayweather fight, he lost but he was at his best and managed to take some rounds early, certainly not the shut out some fanboys claim it to be. Collazo fight was a very good win because Collazo was bigger and way better than Mallignaggi. After the Mayweather fight Ricky was hurt by Lazcano and Malignaggi of all people, his punch resistance was terrible and it looked to have an unbreakable chin before that. I remember he thought he'd easily be able to walk through Mayweathers shots Having Mayweather Sr train him was a terrible idea too, Hatton can't box and fight at mid range because he's not learning the skill at 30yo, he needs to get in close and make it an in fight at close range. FMS had him box instead of having him be the 'hook and hold Hatton', disaster, but Pacquaio beats any version none the less BTW how many bigger men has Pacquaio actually faced? He's a master bodybuilder and always gets bigger at a weight class so until he goto 147 he hadn't really faced a bigger man. The only bigger men hes faced imo are Delahoya/Cotto/Clottey and 2 of those had to drain themselves. Hatton was maybe a little thicker, but in terms of dimensions (height/reach etc) Pacquaio matched him and looked easily as muscular.
This is where I end the discussion. Cotto nor Clottey "had" to do anything, they agreed to the terms, and like going down to 145lbs was going to badly damage anybody. Cotto said he felt fine at the weight, and Clottey hasn't complained either. Manny has fought bigger men, the ones you mentioned, and two of them were devastated. I thought Collazo deserved the decision against Hatton, and I thought Ricky was pretty woeful against Floyd...after all, he was sparked. Good talking to you, PP.
